awanderingbard: (Dresden: Harry magicking)
Title: The Best Parts of Existing
Rating: PG
Warnings: some swearing
Word Count: 1,992
Summary: History, knitting, and life lessons from a modern-day vampire.
Disclaimer: Work is all from my own imagination. Any resemblance to other characters or situations is coincidental.
Notes: Original work, written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo. Because of the word limit, I couldn't clarify any of the historical references made, but most don't affect the story. The only term you might need is 'courer de bois'('woods runner'), who were fur traders in the late 1600s in Canada.

He's not stuck in the past, it's more that the past has stuck to him. )
awanderingbard: (Misc: Ella on swing (Slipper and the Ros)
Title: Browned Butter
Characters: Emma Swan, Killian Jones, Snow White, Henry Mills, Prince Charming, Regina Mills
Pairing: Emma/Hook
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count: 1,956
Summary: It's Storybrooke's first Thanksgiving, and Emma is finding trying to be a domestic goddess more difficult than she anticipated.
Author's notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo.

There had to be a spell to brown butter, right? )
awanderingbard: (Buzzcocks: Welsh accents are hard)
Title: The Best Alarm Clock in the Galaxy
Characters: Poe Dameron, BB-8, General Leia, C-3PO
Pairing: none
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: illness and a brief swear word
Spoilers: Some of Poe's backstory
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count: 1988
Summary: When his master falls ill, BB-8 proves himself to be an excellent alarm clock in more than one sense of the term.
Author's notes: It's [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo time again, and even though it looks like I might be the only person participating, I wanted to try a few short fics to get my word fairy going again. She's very run down.

I blame this story on too much playing of Lego Star Wars lately...

My knowledge of the EU aspects of the new trilogy is limited, and went mostly by the Wookiepedia entries on Poe and BB-8 to get some extra details about them.

Beep-whooop-beep.
awanderingbard: (MCU: Tony Stark is awesome)
Title: Clicks and Whirs
Characters:Tony Stark, Pepper Potts [Stark], Bruce Banner, AU!J.A.R.V.I.S
Pairing: Tony/Pepper (due to Victorian AU setting, they’re married instead of boyfriend/girlfriend)
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: Some mentions of wounds and missing limbs, nothing graphic.
Spoilers: Generalized MCU spoilers.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count: 1972
Summary: Avengers Manor is full of clicks and whirs. And that suits Tony Stark just fine.
Author's notes: This was written for a [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo prompt from a few years ago, I think, which was steampunk Avengers. I didn’t get the chance to write it at the time, but with the open prompts this year, I thought I’d give it a go. Please be warned my steampunk knowledge is a bit limited, but I’ve done my best to conform to the genre. Science may be questionable.

A few notes I couldn’t work into the narrative, due to the word limit:
-- It seemed to make the most sense for Captain America to have fought during the American Revolution, so I’ve made him that sort of patriot. Also, from what reading I did, it seemed America had a lot of conflict with Mexico during the 1800s, so I’ve put Tony as having been held captive there, in some unnamed conflict.
-- This is probably set around 1890, give or take a couple of years.
-- SPIDOR is an acronym for Simply Productive Item for Demolition or Repair. They look kind of like replicators from Stargate, in my head. Only not evil. Just adorable.

Cut goes to [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo post.

Tony always awoke to clicking.
awanderingbard: (MCU: Tony Stark is awesome)
Title: The Man Behind the Curtain
Characters: Edwin Jarvis, Tony Stark, Howard Stark, Maria Stark
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: Contains characters from both Agent Carter, and Iron Man, but no major plot spoilers, as far I can see
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count 1717
Summary: The Stark Christmas party is always the affair of the season. And no one need know the effort that goes on behind the scenes to make it that way.
Author's notes: This is set in 1974, so Tony is approx. four-and-a-half or there abouts. Fun fact: the period key on my keyboard broke near the end of writing this, and now there's just a big hole there. But it's working, somewhat, so I write on.

Written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo, and the cut links to there.

All was calm within the party, however, and it was for the best if no one knew how close it was to chaos.
awanderingbard: (MCU: Cap)
Title: Shield-Brothers
Characters: Steve Rogers, Issie (daemon), Thor, Svana (daemon), the Vision
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: Avengers: Age of Ultron, and possibly other bits of the MCU.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count 1419
Summary: A slip up in battle causes Steve Rogers to become a temporary thunder god.
Author's notes:This is a daemons!verse fic. Knowledge of His Dark Materials is not required. All that's necessary to know is that, in this world, humans' souls live outside of their bodies in the form of animals. There's an excellent primer here.

For reference: Ishild ("Issie") (A Teddy Roosevelt terrier), and Svana (a kind of alien version of a Manx loaghtan sheep).

This is set post-Ultron, but other than that...no idea when or if it might fit in the timeline. Written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo and the cut links to there.

Steve has his hand out to catch his shield, but hitting Mjølnir sent it off wrong, and he's caught something that isn't his shield.
awanderingbard: (MCU: Howard Stark)
Title: Paris in Spring (1/?)
Characters: Howard Stark, Maria Carrera, Edwin Jarvis, Dernier, Falsworth, a few OCs
Rating: PG-13
Warnings/Triggers: swearing, some discussion of sad things, lots of sex and innuendo (nothing explicit)
Spoilers: Nothing specific, but generalized for various backstories of the characters involved
Pairings: Howard/Maria
Word Count 3,367
Summary: When the press starts to close in on Howard and Maria's new relationship, Howard whisks Maria off to Paris see if he can convince her to stick around.
Author's notes: This is one of those stories that started out small, and got bigger. I was originally going to have it in three parts, but then it went to four parts, and then those four parts were best split into two, so I think it will be 6-7 parts over all.

Remember when I used to write short things? Me either.

A lot of headcanon in this, especially in regards to Maria. Set in 1965. Howard is mid forties, Jarvis somewhere in that area, and Maria is in her late twenties. It follows Memory Lapse, but doesn't reference it.

The parts alternate between Howard and Maria's POV. Howard starts off.

How did people even have conversations with girls? )
awanderingbard: (Dresden: Harry magicking)
Title: Big in Heart
Characters: Steve Rogers, Ishild (daemon)
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: Generalized story spoilers for the first Captain America movie
Pairings: none
Word Count 215
Summary: People were always surprised by Captain America's daemon.
Author's notes: I was reminded that I wrote this last night, and realized I never cross-posted it. It was written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo last year. This is a daemons!verse fic.

Knowledge of His Dark Materials is not required. All that's necessary to know is that, in this world, humans' souls live outside of their bodies in the form of animals. There's an excellent primer here.

For reference: Ishild (A Teddy Roosevelt terrier).

Ishild was small. )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Watson giggle)
Two ficlets, written last year for the 'Question Meme', and never cross-posted. Both set in the Abby 'verse

Title: Best Man
Characters: Sarah, Sherlock, John
Rating: G
Pairings: John/Sarah
Word Count 411
Summary: Sherlock gives a Best Man speech. Of sorts.
Author's notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] shadowfireflame, who asked for 'What is Abbyverse Sarah's favorite memory of Sherlock?'.

I'd just like to say that I wrote this before Series Three, proving once again that I am psychic or the Sherlock writers are reading my fanfiction.

Is Sherlock okay? )

Title: Getting Things Sorted
Characters: Alec, Molly
Rating: G
Pairings: Alec/Molly
Word Count 243
Summary: Love in the exotic fruit aisle.
Author's notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble, who asked for 'The first time Alec or Molly or both said "I love you" to the other.'.

Is everything okay? )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Molly cameo)
I was having trouble integrating Alec into the rest of the verse, and so I thought I'd try a writing exercise to help me get used to writing him. I remembered the 30 Day OTP Challenge meme things that goes around tumblr sometimes, and selected ten prompts to get myself going.

So, ten drabble/ficlet/excerpt things, about 2200 words total. Very fluffy, with hints of sexytimes, but nothing over a PG-13ish rating. I wrote them and then tried to get them in semi-chronological order.

Prompts + Fics )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Sherlock shock)
Title: Hunter-Gatherer Instincts
Characters: John, Sherlock
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: none
Pairings: none
Word Count 572
Summary: John accidentally discovers that Sherlock has a surprisingly human hobby.
Author's notes: Moving some comment fic up to my main journal. This was written for a prompt from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] guardian_chaos.

In his defence, Sherlock was weird. )
awanderingbard: (CP: Captain Martin)
Two short fics, written for memes.

Title: Culinary Delights
Characters: Martin, Douglas, Arthur
Rating: G
Word Count 415
Summary: The perils of Arthur with an idea and a microwave.
Author's notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble who gave me the prompt of 'microwave popcorn'

It looks like it was cooked in the fires of hell. )

Title: Citrus
Characters: Martin, Douglas
Rating: G
Word Count 633
Summary: Martin fills in for a missing member of Douglas's pub quiz team.
Author's notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu_mead who gave me the prompt of 'Martin coming out on top'.

So I'm basically just stupid enough. )
awanderingbard: (Misc: exiled to Mantua (Shakespeare))
Title: Error, Error
Rating: G
Spoilers/Warnings: None
Summary: Lux is in charge of the Universe. It is a very boring job.
Notes: Original work. It is silly. Written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo, for the prompt '"+++ Divide By Cucumber Error. Please Reinstall Universe And Reboot +++" -(Hex) Hogfather, by Terry Pratchett'
Disclaimer: Work is all from my own imagination. Any resemblance to other characters or situations is coincidental.

Another time, she'd seen a squirrel. )
awanderingbard: (IM: Tony Stark is awesome)
Title: The God of Thunder Walks into a Bar...
Author: [livejournal.com profile] awanderingbard
Character(s): Kate Beckett, Richard Castle, Thor, Ryan, Esposito
Fandom: Castle/The Avengers crossover
Prompt: Avengers (Movie)/Castle; Castle, Beckett, any Avenger(s); Aliens! In New York!; (prompted by [livejournal.com profile] idontlikegravy)
Rating: PG
Spoilers/Warnings: The Avengers movie. None for Castle.
Summary: Castle and Beckett arrive at a crime scene and find a very unusual witness.
Notes: Moving some of my [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo stuff over here.

I've set this post-Avengers movie, loosely in a hypothetical future where the Avengers are known to the general public as superheroes, if not their true identities.

He's not a person! He's a superhero! )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Molly cameo)
Title: Universal Truths
Character(s): Molly Hooper, The Eleventh Doctor
Fandom: Sherlock BBC and Doctor Who crossover
Prompt: Inspired by this image prompt.
Rating: G
Spoilers/Warnings: Takes place post The Reichenbach Fall and Angels Take Manhattan. Spoilers for both. Mild warning for a bit of angst.
Summary: Molly Hooper meets a madman with a box.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo.

Who says you're not good? )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Sherlock shock)
Title: Blood and Bow Ties
Characters: John, Stamford, Lestrade, Sherlock
Rating: G
Warnings: none, except for a brief mention of blood
Spoilers: none
Pairings: technically John/Unspecified Future Spouse, but pretty much Gen as she (or he!) is unmentioned.
Word count: Approx. 600
Summary: John is getting married. Sherlock Holmes is missing.
Author's notes: This is a silly little thing that popped into my head as I was falling asleep and so I've written it. It is fluffy.

I couldn't decide if John would be married in his uniform or not. There is a version of mess kit that has a bow tie, however, so feel free to presume what you want.

Please tell me you did not get yourself stabbed on my wedding day. )
awanderingbard: (Default)
Title: Sometimes
Characters: Molly, Sherlock
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Spoilers: None
Pairings: Molly/Sherlock (a mixture of one-sided and friendship)
Word count: Approx. 1100
Summary: Sherlock is confused and Molly is helpful. And they are both very, very wet.
Author's notes: A very quick bit of fluff inspired by this lovely artwork by Lexieken, which was then coloured by the lovely AliceXZ. Alice also offered a challenge to write a story about the scene and I decided to give it a go. One-sided Molly/Sherlock pairing with a heavy dose of friendship, but if two-sided Molly/Sherlock is your thing, you could probably make a case for it.

She sometimes thought it was made of magic. )
awanderingbard: (Default)
Title: The Holmes Revolution
Characters: Sherlock, Mycroft
Rating PG
Warnings: alcohol use
Spoilers: None
Pairings: None
Word count: Approx. 700
Summary: In which Sherlock Holmes gets pissed and accidentally overthrows a government.
Author's notes: A very quick tag to Never Have I Ever, expanding on a throwaway joke in it. Written for [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu_mead, who very enthusiastically requested it on a meme. Not very detailed, because I have zero knowledge on African politics.

Set pre-series, probably by several years.

I'm so glad you didn't die of alcohol poisoning. )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Watson giggle)
Title: Forever Hold Your Peace
Characters: Sherlock, John
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Pairings: None,
Word count: Approx. 700
Summary: Proof that if given the chance, Sherlock Holmes will do the most dramatic thing possible.
Author's notes: Written for a Make Me a Monday Prompt @ [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc, which asked for “If anyone has a reason as to why these two should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace.” Sherlock took that as his cue to stand.

There was a buzzing of shock throughout the church. )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Sherlock shock)
Title: Banned Substances
Characters: Lestrade, Sherlock
Rating: G
Spoilers: None, set pre-series
Pairings: None
Word count: 221
Summary: Sherlock discovers energy drinks.
Author's notes: My first 221b (221 words, the last one start with b). I thought I'd give it a go. Various word counters gave me different word counts for this, so in the end I'm putting my trust in Open Office.

This is a little bit crack. It's set an unspecified time before A Study in Pink.

How many of those have you had, Sherlock? )
