Sometimes I would like to give the Sherlock fandom a Valium and tell it to relax.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I'm going to stop looking at tumblr and make some toast.

I sense there will be a lot of toast making before Series Three gets here.

Oh MAN. I totally avoid tumblr. I mean, I know there's some great content on there, and I really want to get into it, especially the Band of Brothers stuff, but...the drama. It's too much. I did my time in the Supernatural fandom on LJ in the pre-tumblr days, I've paid my dues. All I want is to have some peace and love the things I love.

I mostly enjoy tumblr for all the fanart there, and I do only follow sane people, but sometimes the sane people comment on what the insane people are up to and I just want to bury my head in the sand. It's embarrassing, honestly. I am genuinely embarrassed by it.

I like my LJ. It's so calm and peaceful, here.

Times like this I'm glad I don't have a Tumblr. Of course, being a long time Whovian all I feel like saying to Sherlock fandom sometimes is "Try waiting 16 bloody YEARS and see how you like that!" but of course, I haven't (except for now). I only go on Tumblr for the pretty, and can avoid the crazy mostly

I stay in my corner of fandom where people are sane-crazy and aren't throwing their toys around.

I think I should just be grateful that I have no idea what you mean—but I'm terribly curious! If you can tell me briefly without stirring up too many bad emotions (yours or mine), I'd rather like to know. I even Googled and came up with a random selection of things on Tumblr, and I still don't know what you're talking about.

Oh, there's been some developments about Series Three plot and characters, and people have gone nuts over it, and Mark Gatiss's husband wrote a very reasonable, IMO, response and everyone is writing essays in response to his response.There's the usual hate and death threats; the usual crap. I'm just getting extremely sick of it. If you want to know the plot point in question, click below. If not, that's totally cool.

They've announced they're doing The Sign of Four (the one where Watson meets his wife) and Sue Vertue tweeted a set pic of a wedding dinner place setting with Sherlock's name on it. The shippers are rending their garments.

Yeah, I'm usually pretty good about staying with the sane-crazies on tumblr, but sometimes they comment on what the crazy-crazies are up to and I get indignant.

It's not so much about the waiting this time. Just the shippers being idiots. I don't care what you ship, but for the love of God, don't so delude yourself into thinking it's canon that you're telling the creators of the show, who are following the original books, that they're wrong.

I'm one of the shippiest shippers who ever shippped but even I don't delude myself that the things I like to see are ever going to be canon - especially when canon that goes back years has other ships staring you in the face. Sherlock wise, that doesn't stop me shipping Sherlock/John/Greg down to my shippy toes, but I know it's never going to happen onscreen!

Ha! This popped into my mailbox with the spoiler totally unhidden, so I didn't have the option. Oops—but you didn't spoil me, because I tripped over some spoilers earlier and pretty much saw this coming. Also, someone wrote a story that I now realize must have been based on the set pic.

So people are upset that their favorite non-canon ships will continue to be non-canon?

I think I will continue to avoid Tumblr, except for funny pictures that people I trust link to there.

You are smart to stay away from tumblr. I may have to do the same myself. I keep culling the blogs I follow, and the ones that remain just keep getting crazier.
