This is a pet peeve of mine. It's not a pre-requisite that one's name must start with Q to get the Quartermaster job. And I refuse to believe it was just serendipity.

Yes, yes, I totally agree! I suspect it's people not as familliar with the series who think that Q is an initial and not short for Quartmaster, the way Bond implies M is short for something in Casino Royale.

I did briefly toy with Tarquin (Quin for short) for a bit, but mostly because it sounded snotty enough for a Holmes. And I was trying to avoid using Trevelyan due to the Alec Trevelyan associations, but in the end that was his name and I couldn't find a better one.
