I like how Sherlock did his absolute best to try to figure out the cipher himself before going to his “consultant.” The “that’s it” moment when Sherlock finally throws in the towel was wonderful.

And of course Sherlock deleted precisely how old Trevelyan is.

It was very interesting to see Sherlock as someone's child, because, for the first time, John saw him in a beta instead of an alpha role.

Yes, I agree—and it’s interesting to see Sherlock actually craving approval and hating to have made any mistakes in his code-breaking. It just shows how much respect he has for his father. (And agreeing that Siger was scary, awwww!!)

This was a great AU of an AU. It does make me so sad that Siger passed away, though. What a wonderful resource and partner (and mentor, perhaps) Sherlock lost.
