I have to think Sherlock is a choice on his part, overacting wise. Or he's being directed that way. Because he can do quiet and subtle, and even his Sherlock has some lovely subtle moments under the flailing limbs. I'm not sure if it isn't exacerbated by how subtle Martin is as well. I cannot comment on Trek, because I have yet to see it. My brother described it as borderline too much, but just enough to make it okay. I think that's a British villain thing.

Hopefully he'll get some nice quiet moments in The Fifth Estate or 12 Years a Slave.
