I'm sure any kids he'd be around would have spent their wholes lives up to this point being insulted by him, and therefore just roll along because they have been reassured by their parents that Uncle Sherlock doesn't mean it, and of course you can be a ballerina, your neck is absolutely not too short, shut up Sherlock.

I think Sherlock would be quite at home in a group of people in awe of him.
