She never reveals the truth to Loki but doesn't lie to him either which I think is such a marvelous example of how one protects children without deceiving them.
Oh, good! I really worked hard to have Frigga soothe him without lying. I'm glad she came across as I hoped she would.
This made me guffaw and also go "aw!" a bit.
Hee! I wanted to get a little bit of the trickster in there, since Loki isn't quite his usual mischievous self in this. I sort of think Thor was one of those kids who knows the scary stories can't be real, but just in case, he's going to have a look under the bed before he goes to sleep. Maybe with a sword. And then still listens to the stories anyway, because he is Brave.
You say it's kind of sad and it is in parts when you know what the future holds, but I also find it to be a rather hopeful fic that Loki had Frigga as a parent and somewhere inside of him an internalized version of her exists that will hopefully stay his frequently malevolent hand.
I definitely like the idea of Frigga as Loki's moral compass, even if he's not checking with her as often as he should. Their scenes in The Dark World were my favourites.
Thanks for reading and commenting! And thank you for the excellent prompt, it was a good challenge. :-D
