I remember reading a fanfic once ages ago (like, shortly after the first IM movie came out) about Tony joining Pepper on a grocery store trip, and running around like a little kid and dropping things in her cart, and that has always been my headcanon for what happens if you put Tony in a grocery store.
I'd like to think Maria took Tony out a few times so he learned how to do things like shopping like a normal human, because Howard was so far removed from it by that point that he had no clue any more. After that time Maria asked him for ice cream when she was pregnant and Jarvis was sick, so Howard went himself and basically brought the entire dairy aisle home, he's not allowed to go grocery shopping any more.
Tony: *kicking his legs in the child's seat in the cart* Can I buy all the ice cream? Maria: No. You can buy one carton of whatever flavour you want, though. Tony: I want all the flavours. Maria: We'll get Neapolitan, that's close enough.
