Bucky: Want to know what Steve did on a dare? Seriously. Just a dare. No money was at stake.
Steve: The principle was at stake!
Bucky: Yeah, the principle of whether or not you could jump into a half frozen pond and not die.

“I thought Victor wasn’t allowed on the living room couch,” Bucky called.
Steve came in from the kitchen and handed him a beer, having given up on the popcorn. Again. “He’s not,” he said.

“It was thundering, he was nervous,” Steve said.
“He’s deaf,” Bucky said.
“He was afraid of the lightning,” Steve said.
Bucky grinned and shook his head. “You haven’t changed from when you were seven and trying to untie tin cans from dogs’ tails,” he said. “And getting the pulp beat out of you by the Italian kids who’d tied them there in the first place.”
“The Fabrizis were horrible people,” Steve said. “Someone had to stand up to them.”
“Yeah, all three foot nothing of you really scared them to death,” Bucky said.
JJ is trying to be supportive but also trying to be respectful of not telling Elliot anything Winnie wouldn't be comfortable with since she's not there.
Oh, yeah, that's very JJ. He'd also probably trying not to be mean about the ex, but at the same time not trying to natter about him too much and make Elliot feel worse.
JJ: He wasn't that smart. No, that's not fair, he was actually really smart. And he had nice hair. Elliot: Oh. JJ: But nice hair isn't everything. Elliot: Uh-huh. JJ: But his hair was really nice.
