I used to watch NCIS, and I can see the similarities between Archie and DiNozzo, definitely, and Wolfe to Gibbs, now that you mention it. I don't know if you're familiar with The Dresden Files, but I find Archie's narration is really similar to Harry Dresden's, too.
Although perhaps I'm reading too much into it, in both cases. :D
On my part, it was a nod to the fact that in canon, Archie's mother is alive or dead as he seems to need for the situation. He changes his mind a few times on whether she's still alive or not, and it's hard to tell which version he's quipping on. But I do agree that there's something sweet about remembering things that don't need to be remembered. I find the characters write themselves a lot of the time and when I come back to read later on, they've said or done something without me really trying for them to do it, and added layers I didn't mean to add. So your interpretation is definitely valid! My favourite is when they ignore what I wanted them to do and just decide to do something else entirely. ;-)

Thanks so much for reading again.
