My mom got partly scammed—she realized in time to stop losing any money, but she had to close an account. And that led to a whole chain of things: she had a bunch of bills on auto-deduct from that account, and she just could not get the info to the companies fast enough for them to process in time to do the right account that month, so several declared her delinquent or called it a bounced check. She has spent many, many hours on the phone trying to get it all straightened out, and she is contesting some fees. It's ridiculous: she did exactly what she was supposed to do, and the companies just couldn't process her new information in time to handle it, so they're blaming her. She is also finding that a handful of them still have incorrect information dating to the time of my father's death, which was nearly six and a half years ago!
So scams are awful, and the people who run them should be serve a long stint in purgatory on hold and arguing over transactions.
