I think it was actually a 'we have Terry and he's awesome, we should use him' situation. Also, I imagine it wasn't easy for Paul Blackthorne to carry on conversations with an inanimate object. I don't doubt his ability to do it, but I'm sure it would get trying after awhile. And a moving person is more more interesting to watch.
