Stuff

Soooo...not a lot to say. I'd like to write some stories, but my brain-to-type translator is being broken. I'm planning to watch some of my Teevees to try and boost my creativity. I think it's been so long since I've seen them that I'm starting to write the characters as my versions of characters, rather than the actual characters, if that makes sense. Like you know how you interpret a character a certain way and that way is different from the way someone else will write him/her? I feel like I'm writing interpretations of my interpretations and not who the characters actually are. I doubt that made anymore sense.

Anyway! My [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking is here, if anyone would like to go stuffing it. I plan to stuff some others', once I take a look through and see who likes what. I also need to catch-up on fic reading.

My mum's off this week (and most of the holidays, which is wicked), so I'm going to hang out with her and do Christmassy activities. That should be good. Provided we can fend of this cold that my mum has and I'm the process of catching.

This actually makes perfect sense to me. And I think that's pretty much how I usually end up writing in the Torchwood fandom.

I think Torchwood is a tricky one in general because Jack himself is wildly OC and different depending on who he's interacting with and where in his timeline you are placing him. You place him with his team and he's easily the leader, but you put him with the Doctor and he goes subservient. I don't think you will see two fanfic writers portray Jack in the same way. My flirty and eccentric and somewhat needy Jack is different from your bitchy and dark and selfish Jack (who I LOVE) and I think both those Jacks are fairly canon. You know?

Yeah, I feel like the writers of Torchwood never give the fanfic writers a break when it comes to characterizations. Depending on whoever is writing the episodes, everyone tends to careen about the spectrum of Serious vs. Snark. Sympathetic vs. Selfish. Smart vs. Stupid. Emo vs. Hard Ass.

And with Jack he totally is flirty, eccentric, needy, bitchy, dark, and selfish. I guess that's what makes him interesting. *G*
