Writer's Block: Open book test

[Error: unknown template qotd]

That I'm not very grown-up? I've only very recently (at age 24) ventured into the 'grown-up' section at the bookstore, instead of shopping in the teen sections. Mostly because there are so many books in the grown-up section and I get nervous. So, basically, my bookshelf is my collection of Royal Diaries, Dear America and Dear Canada diaries (all of which are mostly there because they're really, really pretty), most of the Princess Diaries books, Richard Scrimgeour, a few miscellaneous books I saved from my teen years, a complete Harry Potter set and the three 'classic' books I own, The Three Musketeers, Around the World in 80 Days and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Even the classics, though unabridged, are from the kid's section of the store. Though The Pimpernel cover is pretty awesome.

Then there are my 'grown-upish' books. A very spotty collection of Nero Wolfe books, a compete Codex Alera and Dresden Files (minus the books out working the cause).

Those are my display books, in the bookshelf that is visible. The one in my closet contains all my geeky collector books, behind the scenes movie stuff and biographies, a few baby name books, plus some Shakespeare (including a very, very beat up version of Romeo and Juliet well-loved during the process of writing a parody for drama club), a couple of Sophie Kinsellas and books I have bought that are waiting to be read.

Most books I don't keep, so it's not a very great reflection on my book choice. I usually read and then donate to Value Village, or pass them on to friends.

Nero Wolfe FTW!! If I'd been in the other room when I answered this question I'd have a shelf full of them.

I have been working to collect what ones I could find, but it's very hard, since most of them are out of print. I've found a couple at Value Village and some on e-bay, but nowhere all of them. It's a very happy day when a new one comes into my life.

Archie Goodwin and Harry Dresden are long-lost narrating detective twins. *nods*

I am massively lucky to have an amazing used mystery bookstore nearby, although I have nowhere near all of the Wolfe books either, there are just so many of them. The local libraries have a few others so I've managed to read quite a few of them. Rex Stout was an amazing author.

And yes, Archie and Harry are definitely related. *nods*

I read that he never edited his books. He just wrote it and submitted it without rereading. It's just amazing to me that he could keep all those facts straight in his head without going back over them to make the mysteries work.

They reprinted quite a few of them when the tv show came out, so I've got most of those versions. My local library had a few too, which is rare for them since they usually have nothing that I would ever want to read. Plus the evil librarian glares at you all the time you're there.

I *loved* the TV show. The casting was amazing and acting incredible.

He never edited? 0.o wowsa. That's amazing!

No, apparently that's why there are some continuity errors or spelling mistakes in the books - he didn't want anyone else editing either!

The TV show is how I got into the books. I was gutted when it was cancelled. Though it's fun to play 'hey, it's that guy' whenever a show is filmed in Canada now.

I'm amazed he had the clout to insist that even the spelling errors went unchanged.

I've done that with the actors too! I thought it was neat that in "Leverage" Timothy Hutton's (Archie from Nero Wolfe) ex-wife was played by the woman who was often Archie's love interests in the series!

I haven't seen Leverage. It's on a channel we don't get here, I don't think. But I've heard it's awesome and I do love Timothy Hutton. I shall have to investigate.

Kari Matchett is wonderful, isn't she? Her Julie Jaquette was so perfect. She was on Miami Medical just recently, before it got cancelled. She and Jeremy Northam were very cute together.

Kari Matchett, I should have remembered that. She's been in a lot of things. She's a great actress.

I like Leverage. Some episodes were a little predictable, but it's still a fun show. I could point you to a sekkrit comm where you could acquire it if you're interested

Hmmm, looks like I can put it on my Ziplist, thanks. I'll let you know if I need sekkrit comms in the future. :-D

:) Yay! Hope you like it!
