Give me a character that I write or have written and I will tell you either what they look like under Harry's Sight or what a soulgaze with them would be like. Specify which one you prefer, or I'll choose. Either way is fine with me.

For the uninitiated, both concepts come from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series. Sight or Third Eye shows people's true forms, usually in a metaphorical fashion and a soulgaze shows what that person's soul looks like, with their past, present and possible futures and innermost essences on view, unable to hide anything, usually only in a metaphorical fashion.

It doesn't need to be a supernatural character, but characters with some background and/or a decent amount of screentime are preferred so I can make some guesses as to what their essences are. Any of my OCS are welcome, too.

John's soul is a forked road in the middle of a forrest. There is a sign post with London streets signs on it indicating where the forks lead. The sign at the top of the post points to the right, down a friendly, happy looking path. It says 'Baker Street' on it. If you listen, you can hear the sound of laughter, violin playing, beakers clinking together, fingers on a computer keyboard, Mrs Hudson's 'yoo-hoo!' greeting and two men speaking and joking with one another. Underneath, if you listen carefully, there's also gunfire, the pounding of feet running, and explosions.

The next sign down points to the left and it says 'War' on it. The path it indicates is twisted and dark, with charred trees and big rocks making it hard to walk on. If you listen, you can hear the sound of explosions, gunfire, people screaming and crying, medical machines beeping and orders being given. Underneath, if you listen closely, you can hear the sound of soldiers laughing and joking with one another, people speaking in foreign languages with their tones indicating gratitude, and children playing in places that are safe now.

At the base of the post is a rucksack with badges sewn on it - the medical corp logo, various flags of countries he's been to, one that looks like the pattern to the wallpaper at 221b, a skull, a red cross, the London Underground logo and others. One of the pockets has a notebook and pen in it, and there's a laptop and jumper inside the main part. There is a gun sticking out of one pocket and a stethoscope in another.

Oh goodness, I didn't reply to this yet, gah! So, belatedly, WOW. This is so beautiful. It makes me wonder what I'd look like under such a gaze, heh. Your descriptions all sound believable and true to John's character. I particularly enjoyed the undercurrent of war that threads through John's overall existence, but moreover, how so many mannerisms gained from his time with Sherlock rise above that painful undercurrent.

Underneath, if you listen closely, you can hear the sound of soldiers laughing and joking with one another, people speaking in foreign languages with their tones indicating gratitude, and children playing in places that are safe now.

Ah, I love that. Just goes to show that so few things are ever 100% darkness. There's hope all over the place, if it's just looked for.

There is a gun sticking out of one pocket and a stethoscope in another.

Lovely. Thank you for writing this!

I think soulgazes are probably my favourite fictional concept, like, ever. I think they're so cool. It's like description porn and I love description. :-D

Thanks for the prompt! I'm glad what I came up with worked for you.
