AO3 Meme

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper:

I currently have 42 works posted on AO3. Choose a random number - no peeking! - between 1 (most recently posted/updated) and 42, and I will tell you three random things about that story.

The majority of my stuff is not there, including 98% of my Dresden stuff, but what's there tends to be longer, so I should have more to say about it.

If you only have 42 works on there, then I have to ask for #42!

Number 42 is Somnus (http://archiveofourown.org/works/16206/chapters/20735), (badly formatted as it was my attempt to uplaod something there and I didn't know how it worked yet)

Somnus is where Dr Forrester originated, and he's probably my favourite Dresden OC. He arrived fully formed, and politely introduced himself and I put him in there. I needed him to be Captain Exposition, but he ended up having more of a role than I expected.

One of the character, Nick Meyers, was originally supposed to be a bad guy, but got a reprieve at the end, getting turned into a unknowing accomplice.

The demon's name, 'Deimos', is from mythology. Deimos is the Greek personification of terror, which is appropriate for what he does, but I've always felt sort of silly that his name is so similar to the word 'demon'. I felt like it looked like I couldn't think of anything better and just switched some letters up, or something. :-P

Number 17 is A Little Leverage (http://archiveofourown.org/works/496839).

I wrote this as part of a Make Me a Monday prompt on [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc but I didn't post it for ages because I wasn't happy with the ending and I was afraid it was too similar to Never Have I Ever. But when I read it to Ama, she insisted that John would be doing a set of vitals on Sherlock, so I rewrote the ending around that and it worked much better.

Sherlock sings Tom Lehrer's Elements Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFIvXVMbII0). I think I built the whole fic around the image of him singing that.

The best comment I got for this was on ff.net:
"Wow. Just...wow. Tripping!Sherlock is *awesome*. If only one of them had thought to collect video evidence. :)

which has to be the best example of 'wait, did you read the story?' that I've ever seen. :-)

Oh dear, yeah... that commenter. :)

Number 30 is Waiting and Recovery (http://archiveofourown.org/works/228280/chapters/346367).

I wrote the majority of these during my week at the cottage, and it was the first fic I had written in a very long time, and the first for Sherlock.

I was stuck by how much of a father figure Lestrade was, and then I thought about how Mrs Hudson is a mother figure, and I liked the idea of both of them looking after their 'children', and comparing and contrasting them. There was originally going to be bridging scene where Lestrade came to tell Mrs H what was going and assuring her all was well, but I didn't end up writing in the end.

There is a conversation Sherlock and John have in the second part that's based on a discussion Mark Gatiss and Benedict Cumberbatch have in the Great Game commentary, about Sherlock's ability or lack thereof to drive. In series two, Sherlock ends up driving because Martin Freeman doesn't know how, so that conversation is very non-canon now. I am still slightly miffed.
