Words!

My mum accused me of garfling today, and it got me thinking about something. Does anyone else have words or phrases that are unique to their family, or at least not commonly heard where you grew up?

My family words:
Garfle -- to mess up a basket of folded laundry in search of an item near the bottom.
Chuff -- what the printer does when it keeps spitting paper out with one or two characters on it.
Gros pitune -- an overweight person, who is nonetheless adorable
Nose draft -- the window in the back of a van that only opens slightly
"Get in the car, Martha!" -- a phrase stemming from a vacation my parents took where there was an older gentlemen bellowing at his wife to 'get in the picture, Martha!', which was apparently funny enough to become a catchphrase between them. Now used to tell someone to hurry up.
"Nothing broke!" -- called upon creating a loud noise, stemming from my klutzy tendencies as a child and my assurances that no assistance was required.

Abby: Sherlock loves me!
Sherlock: That is a very poor deduction of the facts.

John: That's right, Abby. Sherlock loves you.
Sherlock: I see you intend on not teaching your child anything important.

John: No, we're trying to raise a well-adjusted child, actually.
Sherlock: I'm perfectly well-adjusted.
John: You pretended to jump off a building and were dead for two years, and you've just tried to make a toddler paint a wall for you.
Sherlock: Why do you keep stating the obvious as though it's an argument?

I have this strange desire to combine your Abby!Verse with my Greg&Connie!Verse which also includes Q!Verse.

I think my brain is trying to condense everything down to make it somehow easier. HAHA EASIER! Silly, brain.

I wrote a Christmas fic, and I kept thinking I should maybe give Lestrade someone to mention he was seeing or something, but then I couldn't come up with someone better than Murphy, so I didn't. And I keep wanting Q and Abby to meet. I put Alec in the Abby verse to save me some verses, but I did have a bit of fic with him and Q in it at one point. And I like the idea of Connie being in the Q verse. I don't see her taking much crap from the Holmes boys.

I intend to try and write some canon stuff before Series Three starts, to make sure I can still do it.

I've sort of resigned myself that I won't be able to write anymore substantial fic before Series Three starts. I have bits of Anna getting used to England and meeting Sally who is kind of a cool older sister to her. I also wanted to get to the part in the entire story when Lestrade officially adopts her but, but, but so many words, so little time!

I'm sorry. Both because I like to read your stories, and because I know you'd like to write them. But I enjoy ranting with you about things, so hopefully that will help get you through until you have enough time to put your word fairy to use. And hopefully Series Three will give us both some canon plot bunnies, before we write six seasons and a movie of our AU verses.

The thing that I most worry about is that Series Three will feel like something is missing because there will be no Q or Alec. I'll keep wondering where Molly's wonderful boyfriend played my Tom Hiddleston is in every scene.

Yeah, I'm a bit worried about that myself. I've never written an AU for something currently airing. I wrote my Dresden one after the show was cancelled. Hopefully it will be good enough that we won't be sad. But I suppose we'll have our AUs to fall back on if we are. And it's only three episodes and then probably another two years, so we'll have more time to come up with weird ideas! Yay?

so we'll have more time to come up with weird ideas! Yay?

More kid!fic for you and more tragedy and angst for me!

At least we've accepted our lot in life. *nods*
