Weird Problem

I'm not seeing quotation marks or apostrophes on some people's entries for some reason. It makes it very hard to read stories. I'm guessing it's maybe only posts composed in Word or maybe with a program like Semagic. It doesn't seem to be on my own posts, I can read them fine. The quotations and apostrophes look like periods or dashes. Sort of like .Jack,. The Doctor.s voice said. It's hard to read. Any suggestions on what the problem might be and/or how to fix it?

ETA: It looks like this if that helps anyone.

Excerpt is from [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper's journal, a story that can be found here.

No clue, everything looks fine to me. :/ Usually when someone composes in Word and lets it be all "helpful" with the curly-quotes and such, you end up with question marks rather than periods. That's definitely strange. [ponder]

It's not my journal that I'm noticing it on, for some reason. I don't know what it's about. :(

No, what I meant was, reading LJ through my journal (and I have a pretty large Flist) I've never seen that. Very weird. :/

Huh. Strange. Do you know if it's on your end or on the end of the people whose LJ you're reading?

I'm not sure. It's not on my journal that I'm having a problem. It looks like this (http://donutsweeper.livejournal.com/64878.html?#cutid1) (from [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper's journal). I don't know if it's a me problem, or a them problem.

Strange. The screenshot looks the way you describe, but the actual LJ when I go to it looks normal.

Oh, but it looks like you solved it?

Yeah, it looks fine if I show it in my journal style for some reason. My computer seems to have issues with donutsweeper's journal. Probably some deep-seated childhood thing.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
HAve you tried changing the journal style?

I have no idea if it'll help or not (I doubt it) but try adding ?style=mine after the .html in the web addy

Nope, it didn't help, but that's for the suggestion. It's on your journal I really notice it. It looks like this (http://donutsweeper.livejournal.com/64878.html?#cutid1). I'm using your journal as an example in my entry, but if you don't want that, I'm happy to take it down. I've included a link to the original entry that the screencap is from as well.

oh that's weird! No idea why or how that's happening to you.

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I lied. It totally does work when I put your suggestion to use. I wasn't doing it properly before. It reads fine on my style. I wonder why that is?

LJ hasn't been fed its donuts lately? At least you've figured out how to fix it!

Sorry for the spam, but it might help if I gave the right link to the problem. here (http://i29.tinypic.com/2gxpmpu.jpg). Last time, I promise. :D
