Memeage for a Sunny (With chance of Thundershowers) Afternoon

1. A film
Newsies. Yes it flopped horribly at the box-office, yes it isn't historically accurate, yes the love interest in it is possibly the most useless one in film history, but do you know what? Boys in tight pants singing and dancing. Christian Bale singing and dancing. 'Nuff said.
2. A book
The French Executioner by C.C Humphreys. I've just read the sequel which puts me in mind of it. It's a tough book to get into, but once you're into it, you'll find yourself shivering in the bathtub long after the water has turned cold promising yourself that you'll stop reading after 'one more chapter'.
3. A song
A recent song I've added to my collection is "Wish you Well" by Justin Hines. It was featured on a commercial for a walkathon benefiting sick children and the few lyrics on there had me Googling for it to find out what song it was. The lyrics are beautiful as is the music and it's such a Rose/Doctor song. Such.
4. A band
Jars of Clay. One of my 'vaguely Christian rock bands' that I like. Only, you know, not vaguely Christian. Very Christian. I got into them after someone wrote a fic using their lyrics and I am a total sucker for beautiful lyrics. I had to download them to see what they were like and I was sold. There are two songs that I adore: "Something Beautiful" and "Waiting for the World to Fall", the latter which is a song that always ends up on any playlist I make. It's gorgeous.
5. A website
iSketch.net. It's Pictionary online - you draw with your mouse. There are tons of a categories to draw in (Movies, Colours, Music, etc.) and it's a great way to kill some time. People can be bitches, but you'll get that in any online group game.
6. A TV programme
QI. It's a quiz show hosted by incredibly erudite Stephen Frye where the point is less to be right, than to be interesting. The questions asked are usually impossible to know the answers to, so guests get points for either having something interesting to say that vaguely relates to the question or for being creative in their answers. Anyone who answers with an obvious answer gets points taken off. It's utterly hilarious. My mum says that when I'm watching it, she can hear me laughing upstairs.
7. A fanfiction series/a multi-chapter fic
Captain Doctor by kmspider. It's on FF.net, which is why I'm linking it, because I don't think as many people will have read it. It's an AU in the Firefly universe based on the concept that the Browncoats didn't lose the Battle of Serenity and how that would have changed things. It's a clever idea and well-written.
8. A one parter fanfic
Charming the Pants of the Pashahads bydonutsweeper. It's technically in two-parter, but only because the story was too long for one lj post. It's a Stargate Atlantis/Jack Harkness crossover and both verses are written extremely well. The author has a talent for writing comedic comedy, angsty angst and whimsical whimsy and it's a nice, lighthearted read with a few serious undertones that catch you by surprise.

"The Complete Works of Wm. Shakespeare (Abridged)". I've seen this done twice - both in the park near where I live. It's just like what it sounds - every Shakespeare piece, abridged. It's usually done by 3 men, with one of them always taking the female parts. It's utterly hilarious. The last act is entirely Hamlet - done 'normally', then faster, then even faster and then backwards. Go see it if you ever get the chance.

Fantastic Rose. Using a song written specifically for the character of Rose and extremely well-edited. It makes me a little teary. :-)

14. A place to visit
Stowe, Vermont. I haven't ever left the continent, so I can't say anywhere exotic, but I love Stowe. It's so small town and beautiful, has wonderful old stores in the centre of town and really awesome local theatre in the summer. I also understand that you can ski there or something? Whatever. The theatre is awesome. :-)
15. A hobby to try
Friendship bracelet making. It's just a bunch of knots in different patterns and very easy to do, plus they look really good and you can hand them out. I make them for the kids in the hospital where my mum works, along with little teddy bears made of felt. You just safety pin the top to the couch or your jeans or something and you can do it while you watch TV. I find it very relaxing. Lots of patterns here.
The Hypothetical AU Meme:
Take any one of the fandoms you know I write AND give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc.) or a time period (Ancient Rome, Feudal Japan, Victorian England, etc). I will then explain what story from that fandom I would write for that AU.
I'm going to extend this to say any fandom you know I like, not necessarily write for. It's hypothetical, so I don't actually have to write the stories. :-)

Well, the Council wouldn't have to change since they've been around forever. Murphy I would make some sort of kickass nurse type person, who is curious about the supernatural. She'd meet Harry when he was injured in battle and she looks after him. Then they would join forces to fight some sort of...undead attack. I think Michael, Ramirez, Thomas and the Alphas could all be the same, only soldiers in in Harry's regiment, rather than friends from the city/Council. Mister would be the regiment's cat and Mouse would find his way to Harry and stick with him all the time. Molly could be a rebellious girl who joins up as a nurse against her parents wishes. Morgan would be the overzealous regiment commander who hates Harry's guts.

Alright. Well, Fraser would be some sort of police constable in a backwoods, rural town. His father would be the Police Chief, who was murdered. The connections would lead to London, where one of the Rays would be a tough London cop, who looks down on Fraser's backwoods methods. Diefenbaker would be a deaf Deer Hound of unusual intelligence. Everyone else could keep their relative positions in Fraser's life. Francesca would be a young woman rapidly reaching her 'spinsterhood', who tries to lure Fraser all the time. Thatcher would perhaps have to be a secretary, rather than the chief. Welsh would be the chief and Turnbull would be some bumbling idiot constable.

Oooh, Firefly as film noir. Well, obviously Mal would have fought in WWI as a teenager. He probably had shell shock and is rather bitter about the whole experience. He would be a poor, out of work detective and a bootlegger on the side, with his 'crew'. Wash would be the driver, Zoe would be second, still, though not a war vet like Mal. I might say that her brother fought with Mal and died and Mal promised to look out for her. Kaylee would be the mechanic. Jayne would be the muscle. Inara would be the 'moll'. Perhaps a (high class) lady of the night, who Mal comes to for information a lot.
River would be some sort of genius who the mafia was using for some reason. Simon would have managed to get out of there and attempted to hide her with Mal and his crew. Mal would reluctantly agree to help hide them, but the mafia would be on their trail all the time. Book would be...hmmm. I guess he could be some sort of preacher trying to save their souls all the time, but who, occasionally, would help fight and be surprisingly good at it.
