Now landing at Zurich

So, I managed to work myself up to listening to the last two episodes of Cabin Pressure today. I got a little teary, but I'm very pleased by the send off it got. Lovely writing from John Finnemore.

Yay for happy endings! I admit the gold in the wiring was a bit of a deux ex machina (almost literally, actually), but I do like the idea that that's what's been causing Gertie to be so difficult over the years. And Martin and Theresa are together, and MJNAir (or rather, OJSAir, sniff) is still in flight, and Douglas is a captain.

Some other nice things:
-- Martin's captain at Swiss Air is Captain Loutre, which is 'otter' in French.
-- They're starting the alphabet over again by going to Adis Ababa (sniff)
-- I loved the clever recap of the first episode with Arthur on the phone to his girlfriend (and the nice nod to the mention in one of the previous episodes of Arthur's girlfriends being silly posh girls with silly posh names)
-- Yellow car!
-- I loved that everyone had their part in being clever, even Martin and Arthur. And Martin's new found confidence being Douglas is a little bit sweet, too, as was Douglas's disappointment during his job interview at having a flying companion that wasn't Martin.

Overall, I'm very, very happy. And a little bit sad. A lot of writers could learn from John Finnemore on how to develop characters over the course of the series. I wish everyone well in their future projects. And maybe it isn't too much to hope that maybe we'll get a Christmas special or two in the future?

I'm a little disappointed with myself that I never got a Cabin Pressure icon and the series is now over!

I pretty much agree with everything you've already said. I'm pleased that Arthur got to be smart (twice!) for Arthur at least for the ID thing and for remembering his Gran's real name. The show also did my favorite thing of having characters imitate each other with Martin being Douglas and Douglas being Gordon and Arthur being...his Aussie alter ego. Top points for everyone's imitations!

I think my favorite moment though was when Carolyn announced that Douglas will be captain. Like the audience, I actually paused to take that in before I got all teary eyed and aw'd. I'm so pleased that everyone got something at the end.

Martin's captain at Swiss Air is Captain Loutre, which is 'otter' in French.

I didn't know this! That's such a great detail. It was sweet that Martin clearly has retained the humor he was more or less forced to develop during his time at MJN Air. "Martin du Crieff..." It would have only been better had he somehow worked in bear polar.

I also hope there will be maybe a future Christmas special at some point. I'd like to know how Martin's getting on at Swiss Air and how OJS is doing.

I'm pleased that Arthur got to be smart (twice!) for Arthur at least for the ID thing and for remembering his Gran's real name.

I was actually chanting in my head something along the lines of 'she's your Gran, Arthur, you know her name, remember her name'. It's sort of a sweet happy/sad moment of Arthur giving up faith in Gordon, but completely trusting the MJN team to make everything better, and standing up for himself and actually getting angry. Someone wrote a thing on TVtropes about Douglas being Arthur's father figure and that's who Arthur calls for when Gordon tries to trick him.

Top points for everyone's imitations!

I do wonder how far in advance they get the scripts and how much time Cumberbatch had to prepare his Allam imitation, or if it was something he has in his imitation arsenal already.

I'm so pleased that everyone got something at the end.

No angst for anyone! Happy endings for everyone!

"Martin du Crieff..." It would have only been better had he somehow worked in bear polar.

I realized after the episode was over that we didn't get any polar bears. It would have been awesome if Martin managed to use the proper French word for it. We got a call back to almost everything else, though, which was great. I'm a sucker for a good call back.

I'd like to know how Martin's getting on at Swiss Air and how OJS is doing.

There will be fic!! I literally have the document open at the moment. It's sort of interesting to write Douglas and Martin now, because they're being very bro-ish because they're not rivals any more so they can just hang out without as much sniping.

Welcome home!

We all screamed at "yellow car"! We started doing it as a family, and I just saw my brothers at Christmas, who observed that my Mom does it now. I think we had her listen to one episode, and she doesn't even remember it, and I don't think it featured yellow car; she picked that up purely from me.

I'm so proud.

I really didn't see where this one was going! I loved it. Happy endings all round!

And I certainly hope for Christmas specials. Surely Martin will see the rest of the gang not infrequently, and Herc and Douglas in the cockpit will be worth hearing, and Arthur. . . .

Yay!

My mum has listened to all the episodes with me. I think radio is hit or miss, some people just can't make the pictures for it. I love that Britain still does so much radio stuff, though. And that the BBC lets us have it for free!

The Brits have a long tradition of reuniting for Christmas special, so fingers very much crossed.

Yay, indeed!
