Random question of the day!

Can daemon!chameleons change colour, or are they stuck as whichever colours they had when they first settled?

Real chameleons change colour to reflect a mood or to appeal more to the opposite sex or show that they're big and scary and shouldn't be messed with, and I thought it would be cute if a daemon!chameleon changed colours to reflect their human's mood. But as they aren't real chameleons and daemons don't tend to change (for example, a stoat daemon doesn't become an ermine daemon in the winter, like its animal counterpart would), does that mean they wouldn't have the same abilities as a real one?

I'd figured that the human's soul selects the animal form of the daemon because of the characteristics and abilities of the animal itself closely matches the soul.

That's what I was thinking as well. It's for Lev, Pepper's daemon, and one of the reasons I chose a chameleon was to reflect her rapid ability to adapt. And I thought it would be cute if Mim was able to tell what was going on with Pepper because she's learned what colours or patterns mean what over the years. Or at least knows that Lev changes and half the time accurately guesses what each change means. Some of the time. Like, one out of ten, but hey, she did at least notice there was a change.

But then I wasn't sure that was even possible for a daemon to do.
