Quick Canon Question + Icons
Quick question on Agent Carter canon, though more of an opinion than anything else:
In Season One, Jarvis says he was 'aide' to a General in Budapest. I assumed that he meant 'aide-de-camp', which is a sort of secretarial position, but I recently saw Jarvis mentioned on TVtropes as a 'batman', and that actually makes a lot more sense (batman was a servant to an officer, in charge of running errands, driving him, taking care of his clothing, digging his foxhole in battle, etc.). Did the AC writers use 'aide' so not to confuse American audiences, who probably would have gone to Bruce Wayne at the use of batman? It just makes more sense to me for him to be a batman, and go into life as a butler (historically, batmans often followed their officers into domestic service), than to be an aide-de-camp, which was a very prestigious position, and then have all the skills to be a butler later on.
Any thoughts?
Also, while I'm here, I said I was going to make some Ana Jarvis icons and I did. If any wants them, please feel free to use. Credit to
songstressicons and/or
citadel_icons if you'd like, but it's not necessary. Also, I'm trying to get the hang of a new graphics program, so if anyone would like any other Agent Carter icons, I'm happy to make them if you give me a picture or subject.

Uncle Bucky’s metal hand made a clicking sound from a fist he was making. He looked down at it when JJ did, and his fingers opened again, and he put something stingy on JJ’s forehead.
“But I just put it in my pocket, and they stopped bothering me,” JJ carried on, quickly, so Uncle Bucky didn’t try to be Captain America either. “But when we got off the bus, they started following me home, and calling me names, and I was ignoring them--I promise I was. I know I’m suppose to ignore them, and I was. But then they tripped me, and they pushed me into an alley, so I had to fight to defend myself. It’s okay to do that. Dad said I can do that.”
Uncle Bucky sighed. “Of course he did,” he said. “I don’t suppose you thought about running?”
Oh. Yeah. That was something JJ could have done, actually. He was pretty quick. He could have run.
“No,” he admitted. You didn’t run. You stood your ground. Dad never ran.
“Where’s your hearing aid now?” Uncle Bucky said. “No wonder you didn’t hear me calling you when you came in.”
“One of them took it out of my pocket and stepped on it,” JJ said. “It’s broken.”
Uncle Bucky got to his feet. “What are their names?” he asked, in a deep voice that made JJ’s spine cold.
“I don’t know,” he lied. “It’s not a big deal, Uncle Bucky. Please, don’t make a fuss.”
“JJ, you’re missing a tooth,” Uncle Bucky said.
“It was loose already! It was a baby tooth. I’ve been wiggling it all day.”
“They broke your hearing aid.”
“I have an extra one at home. Uncle Tony always makes me extra ones in different colours.”
“They ganged up on you three to one in an alley and gave you a black eye!”
“I found a garbage can lid, and I blocked, like, half of the blows!”
All of the anger went out of Uncle Bucky at once, like a balloon that had been popped, and he started to laugh, first a chuckle, then a really deep belly laugh, his head shaking.
“Kid, you have no hope at all,” he said. “Genetics are a curse.” He got out his phone, and started texting.
“Who are you sending that to?” JJ said.
“Your dad,” Uncle Bucky said.
“No!” JJ said. He jumped to his feet, and tried to pull the phone away. “Please! I know I’m in trouble, and I promise I’ll tell him later, but I just want to clean up befor-mmmmmmm--” Uncle Bucky’s hand covered his mouth, so he couldn’t talk any more.
“I’m not ratting you out, I’m buying you time.” Uncle Bucky showed him the screen. “Your dad will worry if you don’t come home when you should.”
‘Borrowed your kid. Will bring him back when I’m done,’ was all the message said.
JJ relaxed. “Thank you,” he said, but it was muffled to ‘mmmmmmmoo’ under Uncle Bucky’s hand.
“Barnes’ and Rogers’ stick together,” Uncle Bucky said. “Sit back down. I need to check you for a concussion.”

For some reason I kind of chuckled at how super-serious Bucky was about JJ never having to ask about if it would be okay to come over. Maybe I just saw it really clearly in my head. Also, the idea of Bucky channeling his Winter Soldier self to scare the crap out of some kids is also kind of funny in a "haha, but no, don't actually do it" kind of way.
This was a sweet fic. The tradition of a Barnes cleaning up a Rogers still goes on.
I've been kind of tinkering around with a fic between JJ and Elliot. I keep wondering if I'm writing JJ properly and it's basically me asking myself, "Is he being polite? Is he being too polite? If the answer is yes, then it's probably right."

It was originally going to be longer, and have more advice giving, but in the end, it just came to a nice stop and ended up being about apples not falling far from trees. I just wanted some Bucky and JJ being bros action, because I have in my head that JJ tests out all his problem on Bucky before bringing them to Steve, just because he's a little worried about Steve being disappointed in him. Not that Steve ever is or would be, but when your dad is Captain America, you kinda feel like you aren't living up to the family biz. Bucky is there to be like 'let me tell you how stupid your dad was!' and JJ leaves feeling much more confident about telling Steve about his mistakes.

Hehe! JJ is polite before anything, that is 100% accurate. JJ wants to be helpful, and he wants to be polite, and he wants you to be really comfortable and having a good time. I have a feeling he'd be good at settling into the rhythm of a conversation, and being boisterous if that's what's going on, but settling down if the other person was quieter. Though probably chatty, and making up for the other person not talking.
Nice to hear from you! *huggles*

Thank you! It's nice to be back and talking fandom with you! *hugs*

Hee! That totally makes sense. Bucky is literally the only person alive who can bring the Captain America image down.
Bucky: Want to know what Steve did on a dare? Seriously. Just a dare. No money was at stake.
Steve: The principle was at stake!
Bucky: Yeah, the principle of whether or not you could jump into a half frozen pond and not die.
JJ wants to be helpful, and he wants to be polite, and he wants you to be really comfortable and having a good time.
The fic is a re-working of Elliot being sort of weirded and slightly upset after meeting Winnie's ex-boyfriend from before. JJ is trying to be supportive but also trying to be respectful of not telling Elliot anything Winnie wouldn't be comfortable with since she's not there. Elliot stopped complaining about the ex though because he could just see on JJ's face how hard he's trying to straddle both lines and finding it hard. But still totally committed!

Hee! That sounds like something I had in my original novel-length 'Steve and Nora meet fic'

Oh, yeah, that's very JJ. He'd also probably trying not to be mean about the ex, but at the same time not trying to natter about him too much and make Elliot feel worse.
JJ: He wasn't that smart. No, that's not fair, he was actually really smart. And he had nice hair.
Elliot: Oh.
JJ: But nice hair isn't everything.
Elliot: Uh-huh.
JJ: But his hair was really nice.
