The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne

YES! YES!! YES!!! I actually found a great fanfic for it, set right after the finale, The Barricade. The voices are perfect.

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I recc'd that fic awhile back, it's one of my favourites! I would so write fic myself if I could watch the series somehow. I never did see all the episodes. I only found it halfway through it's run on CBC and they never showed reruns. *sadface*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
*facepalm* I should have realized I got it from you.

There are links to DL it on the 'secret comms' I can point you in the right direction if you like. And there were, last I checked anyway, a few episodes up on youtube.

I discovered that scifi channel cut the episodes. I caught part of the finale on another channel and there were scenes I didn't recognize. I really wish it would be released on DVD

excellent answers, all of them

[identity profile] rodlox.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
11th Hour needs a fandom, definately.

Dresden/Lie...oh the possibilities!
a thought - if Mai's face is a mask (ref: "your face is slipping"), does that mean her lies would only be detectable if she wanted them to be noticed?
(kinda like a Terminator)

last date while married or last date before marrying? either way, its a good answer (they all are)

Kowalsky...from sg1? I can see that.

Jules Verne does have a fandom, actually.

*tries to imagine a poker game like that*...

Murphy: *watching from the sidelines with the other ladies* "you guys going to bet yet?"
Castle: "in a minute"
Patrick Jane: "interesting choice of words."
*the other two just watch and go "hm"*
Beckett: "hell, they haven't even started playing."

11th Hour needs a fandom, definately.

I was sad not too many people seemed interested in it. Rufus Sewell is wonderful and Jacob Hood is one of the few genius/sciencey characters who is also capable of having complex emotions and compassion. I'm sad it didn't get renewed.

That's a good question. Facial expressions are supposed to be universal, so maybe they are the same on a demon face too?

last date while married or last date before marrying?

While married, I think. Sort of the last straw kind of date.

Kowalsky...from sg1? I can see that.

Kowalski from due South, actually (the 2nd Ray), but now that you mention it...I could see SG-1 Kowalsky too.

Murphy: *watching from the sidelines with the other ladies* "you guys going to bet yet?"
Castle: "in a minute"
Patrick Jane: "interesting choice of words."
*the other two just watch and go "hm"*
Beckett: "hell, they haven't even started playing."

LOL! Yes, exactly like that. And then there would have to be a companion fic where all the lady partners get together and compare notes on how to work with geniuses. :-)

>how to work with geniuses. :-)
Murphy: "Liquer."
Beckett: "*nods* Castle definately guzzles the stuff."
Lisbon: "I think it's for us."
*everyone nods sagely*

Jules Verne does have a fandom, actually.

Really, where? I've only ever managed to find dead fansites and some fic at ff.net

I saw one or two back when I was on yahoogroups.com / onelist.com groups.

not sure if they're still there - I'll look.

oh, I never even thought of looking there

you'd have thought of it eventually.

I thought I had more than just this one here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/saojVERNE-fic), but it's all I could find right away. (there's a few spam posts, though; i'd forgotten how bad it got)

thanks! It looks like it's fairly dead, but with luck I'll find something interesting in the older posts

I think they have a wiki fic archive... or at least one of the mailing lists does. There are a couple of old zines with gen stories and a couple on the Yuletide archive, but that's all I've ever seen.

I'd say it has plenty of fans who'd like for there to be a fandom but very little actual fandom.

You may be in luck with Dresden Files/Lie to Me. And that's all I'm saying right now.

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh. I have tried my hand at one myself, but the characters aren't cooperating with each other very well. I think I need a better plot. Plot and I aren't great companions. :p

[identity profile] rodlox.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think the trick is that Dresden Files is usually narrated by Harry...yet Lie To Me almost insists on Lightman (or one of his employees) being the narrator.

still trying to work this out.

[identity profile] joyfulfeather.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know someone who's working on (or at least seriously contemplating) a Dresden/Lie To Me fic. Apparently this is not an unpopular desire. :)

Agree with all of the Murphy's Date list and think someone should be nice and write a "five things" fic with all of those. Just saying. :D

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I bet Murphy and Gillian would get along. They both work with super intense weirdos. :D

I'm working on a DF/LTM fic myself, but it's stalled. I can't get the voices right. It may be time to go back to the source material for inspiration. :-)

I've heard good things about The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne from you and [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper! I kind of wish it had more of a fandom, too. And wow, Murphy and Ray Kowalski. That would either work amazingly well or terrifyingly badly, but either way, I wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall either!
