I think I meant it more as in John was impressed that Sherlock could switch so easily in and out of convincing characters, that he sometimes wondered if Sherlock's real personality was just an act as well. It was more clear in the original, which had an entirely different premise and involved Sherlock playing pirates with a little girl to get information from her.

But I do like your philosophical take on it. I wish I had something deeper for you! :p
