Title: Magician, Heal Thyself
Characters: Lancelot, Merlin, (Arthur, Gwaine and Leon, briefly)
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: Brief mentions of blood
Spoilers: Set between Series 3 and 4 (I think?), no major plot points spoiled
Pairings: None
Word Count 1,949
Summary: When Merlin is hurt on a journey with the knights, Lancelot has to play caregiver to an injured wizard, who has his own methods of getting well.
Author's notes: Written for [community profile] consci_fan_mo, although it’s a reworking of a story I had almost finished before the Great Flashdrive Crash. That version had daemons, but I couldn’t fit them in with the word count limit, so this just plain canonish fic. Unusual for me, I know. :-P

A huge thanks to [personal profile] aelfgyfu_mead for her mad Old English skills. She’s awesome and everyone should know it.

Best to have someone who understood watching over him. )

Title: Vampire’s Best Friend
Characters: Mathurin LeBlanc, Louis the Chow-Chow
Rating: G
Warnings: vague injuries
Word Count: 1,991 (whew, cutting it close!)
Summary: Even vampires need fluffy friends to keep life interesting.
Disclaimer: Work is all from my own imagination. Any resemblance to other characters or situations is coincidental.
Notes: Original work, set in the same universe as The Best Parts of Existing, which I wrote for last year’s [community profile] consci_fan_mo. You don’t have to have read that to follow this one, but it might help. The salient details are: Mat is a French-Canadian vampire and works as a pathologist at the local hospital. That’s really all you need to know to follow this one.

If you’d like to read more about him, you can check out this tag.

Also, here’s a picture of Louis.

Animals don’t particularly care if you don’t age or aren’t really alive or are very cold to the touch.  )

Title: The Light of the Season
Characters: Emma Swan, Killian Jones
Pairing: Emma/Hook
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: The series as a whole, and Season 7 up to and including A Pirate’s Life
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count: 1,978
Summary: Emma and Killian start some Christmas traditions.
Author's notes: Written for [community profile] consci_fan_mo.

The timeline of OUAT is a thing of great and terrible beauty and I have no idea how much time is meant to have passed in Storybrooke this season, but I’m assuming there’s some sort of time discrepancy between worlds, and just went with what worked for my story. If necessary, apply magical hand-wavy AUness.

Is this some sort of pirate thing? )

Title: The Importance of Names
Characters: Finn, Rey, Poe, daemons
Pairing: none
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: hints of war and death
Spoilers: Most of The Force Awakens
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters, I just like to take them out to play.
Word Count: 1,325
Summary: Neither FN-2187 or his daemon have had a name before. But then everything changed.
Author's notes: Just a quick story that popped into my brain awhile ago. Daemon fic.

For reference: Dell (a canaan dog), Liddy (a common swift, and Iskati (a kangaroo rat)

It wasn't until Jakku that everything changed. )

Title: Good Old Boys
Characters: Mathurin LeBlanc, Moïse Charvet
Rating: PG
Warnings: swearing, brief references to war
Word Count: 4, 274
Summary: Mat stops in to visit a very old friend during a medical conference in Montreal.
Disclaimer: Work is all from my own imagination. Any resemblance to other characters or situations is coincidental.
Notes: Original work, set in the Modern Day Vampire universe. I’ll get a tag or something soon for these, if I keep writing them. And I might, because it’s about what my brain can handle at the moment. If you’ve read “The Best Parts of Existing”, you should be able to follow this one.

I’ve used the conceit that Mat and Mo are speaking French and Mat is kindly relaying the conversation in English, aside from a few words for colour or which are hard to translate. The French words should hopefully be understood from context.

Joual is a dialect of French characteristic of Montreal. You can learn more here, if you’d like.

If I wasn’t so fond of Mo, I’d be very grumpy by now. )

Title: Cut off at the Knees
Characters: Nero Wolfe, Archie Goodwin, Saul Panzer, Fritz Brenner, Orrie Cather, Fred Durkin, Inspector Kramer
Pairings: none, passing reference to Archie/Lily Rowan
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: assault and injuries inccured
Word count: 4,105
Summary: Archie takes a beating, requiring Wolfe to adapt to temporary life without his legs.
Author's notes: This was inspired by a prompt [personal profile] donutsweeper had in her Yuletide letter, which I saw and have pondered on and off since then until I decided to write it. My Nero Wolfe is a bit rusty, so I hope everyone sounds like themselves. I've especially never tried to write from Wolfe's point of view before. My thesaurus got a good work out. :-D

Today Wolfe had to be his own legs. Archie’s weren’t available. )

Title: A Bad Week For Doorbells
Characters: Harry, Murphy, Bob, Fay, Mal, Mouse, Kade
Pairings: Harry/Murphy, Fay/Kade
Rating: PG
Warnings: very mild references to potential magical dubious consent
Word count: 6,304
Summary: It's been a bad week for late-night doorbells at the Dresden household, and Fay and her boyfriend are the latest perpetrators.
Author's notes: So, this is random, huh? I was reading through old fic in my journal and got nostalgic for my mini!Dresdens, and my brain, of all things, decided this was what we were going to write now. I, unfortunately, lost all my mini!Dresden 'verse snippets and fics and world building in the Great Flash Drive Crash, so I've elected to just carry on from where I left off, which was here, after a large time leap to the minis being much older. I have done a bit of reworking on Kade's character, so the references to him might be contradictory there, but it shouldn't matter much.

If you need a refresher or are unfamiliar with this verse, here is the Launch Page, which has all the stories.

Voice are a bit rusty, so bear with.

Title: Happy Families
Characters: Edwin Jarvis, Peggy Carter, Ana Jarvis, Daniel Sousa, a dog
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: most of Agent Carter thus far, but nothing terribly specific
Pairings: Ana/Jarvis, Peggy/Sousa
Word Count 4,965
Summary: Peggy is about start a family, while Jarvis is quite happy with the one he's already created.
Author's notes: This was a weird one to write. I can't even remember why I started writing it, but I wrote the whole thing, decided I didn't like it. So I chopped off the second half and wrote an entire different ending, with an entirely different message, and now I like it a lot more. Editing!

I've gone ahead and assumed that Daniel Sousa is who Peggy ended up marrying. I would hope she wouldn't have another heartbreak in her life before finding her husband. This set probably late 40's early 50's? Maybe?

For reference, Hildi looks like this.

I haven’t done that since the end of the first trimester! )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Jarvis)
Title: Love and Enthusiasm
Characters: Ana Jarvis, Tony Stark, Edwin Jarvis, Maria Stark
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: some references to anti-semitism
Spoilers: none
Pairings: Ana/Jarvis
Word Count 5,138
Summary: Ana takes in a wandering Stark, and teaches him how to make challah.
Author's notes: I recently posted 'Character Flaws' AO3, and someone there commented asking for more little!Tony and Ana and Jarvis, and I thought 'I can do that'. So, this is a fluffy Stark Family Adventures fic.

I have never made challah, and I did much research into it, and my understanding is that everyone does it their own way, so I've cobbled together various recipes, techniques and traditions that I found. I hope I have all the meaning and mitzvahs involved correct, my sincere apologies if I've messed anything up.

Tony is approximately three, probably closer to four in this. I've used a mixed of British and American English for Ana, assuming she'd have learned from speakers of both.

I really need an Ana Jarvis icon...

I come to see you! )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Cap)
Title: Camp Sludge
Characters: Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, Steve Rogers, the 69th (Howling Commandos)
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: In a war setting, but no violence or upsetting things involved
Spoilers: none
Pairings: Peggy/Steve UST, Falsworth/Random lady I made up
Word Count 5,016
Summary: On an escort trip home from a mission, Peggy and Howard experience the joys of field life, including bad food, tents, and friendship around the fire.
Author's notes: I was messing around with a prompt generator the other day, and it gave me 'friendship, rabbit, stew' for the prompts. And it was oddly totally relevant to a section of a super epic 'Peggy and Howard Have War Adventures with Steve and the 69th' story I'd been fighting with and eventually abandoned and hacked apart to pare down to something simpler. And it occurred to me I could take parts of that story and write a few smaller fics, and so this is one of them, with the themes of 'friendship, rabbit, stew'.

I've done my best to get all the Commandos to do something here, but there are a lot of them and some are more fleshed out than others, so a few do dominate the actions here. Also, Falsworth's sweetheart is entirely from my head. I mentioned her once in a throwaway and decided she was needed again here, and expanded on it. Some of Falsworth's backstory is from the comics.

Set during The First Avenger, but other than that, no idea when.

She hoped Howard would make it through the night without someone smothering him. )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Howard Stark)
Title: No Repairs Needed
Characters: Howard Stark, Ana Jarvis
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: vague sad things
Spoilers: Agent Carter Series Two
Pairings: Ana/Jarvis
Word Count 2,192
Summary: Howard can't fix anything that's broken right now, but maybe some things don't need to be fixed.
Author's notes: I was hoping we would get a scene with Howard and Ana together this season, but we didn't, and I also wanted to do something with Howard getting a chance to react to everything that happened while he was in Peru. So, this is basically just a short fic of Ana and Howard having a chat.

Did you get the flowers I sent? )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Howard and Jarvis)
Title: Doctor, Butler, Therapist
Characters: Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark, Maria Stark, Ana Jarvis
Rating: PG-13
Warnings/Triggers: kidney stones, bodily fluids, someone in severe pain, a lot of swearing, mentions of infertility.
Spoilers: Agent Carter Series Two character development
Pairings: Howard/Maria, Ana/Jarvis
Word Count 4,719
Summary: With the newest member of the family due to arrive shortly, stress is high at the Stark household, which makes it an unfortunate time for Mr Stark to pass a kidney stone. Fortunately, Jarvis is there to play doctor, butler, and therapist to his employers.
Author's notes: I started writing this during my week of kidney stones, with a vague idea of where I wanted to go, but didn't get very far. Then we got some character development in the last couple of episodes of Agent Carter, and suddenly the whole thing wrote itself very quickly. For the record, my pain was no where near as severe as the level I've given Howard (sorry Howard, I guess), but it is accurate to the amount many people experience. Drink water, people! Keep yourself hydrated.

Sorry to bother you, but Howard thinks he's dying. )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Peggy)
Title: White Noise
Characters: Peggy Carter, Edwin Jarvis, Daniel Sousa, Rose Roberts, Dr. Samberly
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: someone who has been impaled, some blood, a person in shock, etc.
Spoilers: Agent Carter 2x5 "The Atomic Job"
Pairings: None
Word Count 3,018
Summary: Peggy fights against the white noise filling her brain, as her friends help her out of a tricky situation.
Author's notes: Another 'missing scene fic' as they didn't show the aftermath of Peggy being impaled due to, I assume, keeping the plot going. But I wanted to know how they got her out of there, and was messing around, and then I got excited because I had actual, plausible science ideas! Yay me! And then I wrote almost all of it, before realizing I needed to change both narrators and tenses to make it work better, and rewrote it. So, this is getting posted an hour before the next episode airs. Sorry about that.

My years with Mr Stark have given me an uncomfortable knowledge of how to break things with science. )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Jarvis)
Title: Bad Habits
Characters: Ana Jarvis, Edwin Jarvis, Peggy Carter, Daniel Sousa, daemons
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: someone who has been drugged
Spoilers: Most of the first four episodes of Season Two of Agent Carter
Pairings: Jarvis/Ana
Word Count 3,656
Summary: Ana has a husband with a very bad habit of hurting himself and committing felonies.
Author's notes: This is a short(ish) missing scene sort of thing from Episode Four, when Jarvis is drugged by the tranquillizer dart. I wanted to do something with Ana caring for him, and it ended up being a silly bit of fluff and a chance to explore their relationship dynamics. Also, there are daemons, because that's how it arrived in my head.

For the record, I assume Ana and Hesper probably speak to each other in Hungarian, but for obvious reasons, I've had them use English here, except for a few, appropriate places.

Peggy Carter's daemon, Takeo, was created by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble, with whom I share the MCU daemons. Thanks to her!

For reference: Hesperos ["Hesper/Hesci"] (a Chinese Oath Silk Moth), Haddie (a Welsh Springer spaniel), Takeo (a Spotted Hyena), and Eitana (an aardwolf).

It is like wrestling with a giraffe! )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Peggy)
Title: In the Middle
Characters: Archie Goodwin, Nero Wolfe, Peggy Carter, Edwin Jarvis
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: some blood
Spoilers: none
Pairings: None, but some flirting happens
Word Count 3,407
Summary: Archie tells a tale with no beginning and no end, for posterity’s sake.
Author's notes: I had a really bad migraine over the weekend. And, while I was lying in bed with my brain fuzzy, it decided that Nero Wolfeand Agent Carter should be crossed over. I have literally no idea why I was even thinking about Nero Wolfe, but when I sat down to write it, I did the whole first draft in twenty minutes. So, here we are. Starting 2016 off with a weird crossover as my first story.

It’s been many moons since my Nero Wolfe fandom days, but I did a little brushing up on media, and I hope Archie’s voice sounds okay. I aimed it more toward the TV series than the books, just because it was easier to hear Timothy Hutton’s voice in my head.

Nero Wolfe is a tiny, tiny fandom, at best, so if you are unfamiliar with it, I’m not surprised, and you might be lost reading this, as it's all from Archie's POV. I highly recommend getting your hands on some of the books, or the A&E tv series. They are both fantastically entertaining.

It’s not polite to tackle a lady with a head injury, even if she was about to interrupt the world’s greatest genius in the middle of being a genius. )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Angie)
Title: People Who Like Each Other
Characters: Angie, Peggy, Howard, Jarvis, Bond
Rating: PG
Warnings/Triggers: slight innuendo, passing mentions of war wounds
Spoilers: A few general ones for Agent Carter Season One
Pairings: Angie/Bond
Word Count 7,892
Summary: Angie’s attempts at a Very British Christmas don’t go quite to plan, but luckily there are people who like each other around to help make it a memorable day anyway.
Author's notes: Follows Ships in the Night, The Second Threat, and Next Time, Dinner, but I don’t think those need to be read to follow this at all. This was one of the fics salvaged from the Great Flash Drive Disaster of 2015, and I’ve managed to get it done for Christmas! Go me. I tossed Bond in here, because this will probably all be AU once Season Two of Agent Carter rolls in, anyway. I haven’t seen Spectre, and won’t until it hits DVD, but this isn’t canon anyway, so I don’t think it matters if there are any discrepancies.

I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas has a lovely one, and that everyone who doesn’t has a lovely break, too.

People who like each other should be together on Christmas. )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Tony Stark is awesome)
Title: Scar Tissue
Characters: Tony, Bruce, Natasha, Steve, Pepper, Fury, J.A.R.V.I.S, daemons
Rating: PG-13
Warnings/Triggers: swearing, some light injuries, mentions of surgery
Spoilers: IM3, a few references to Ultron, but set before it and mostly character beats
Pairings: Tony/Pepper, hints of Bruce/Natasha flirtation
Word Count 7,868
Summary: Tony is recovering from surgery, Natasha is recovering from a concussion, and Bruce is still learning how to be at ease in his new home. But people have scars, and that's okay.
Author's notes: I have now seen Ultron, and am using this new found canon knowledge to...write AUs. But canonish AUs! I actually started this sometime around March, I think, but it got put aside, and then I picked it up again and have used new character stuff to my advantage.

Medical stuff is accurate as much as it can be when talking about a surgery to remove a thing that doesn't exist. I've kind of gone with how I think it might have worked. Natasha's concussion has been exaggerated for drama purposes, a little.

Set post IM3, pre Cap 2, and continues in the series of 'Tony and Mim Build Apartments for the Avengers' stories, which include "Baby Steps", "One Step Back", and "Put it on the List". This story stands independent of those, and can be followed without having read them.

For reference: Demira ("Mim") (a common tailorbird), Nemi (a qinling panda), Altan (a rainbow boa), Lev (a veiled chameleon), Issie (a teddy roosevelt terrier), and Chariovalda (a black jaguar).

Knowledge of His Dark Materials is not required. All that's necessary to know is that, in this world, humans' souls live outside of their bodies in the form of animals. There's an excellent primer here.

You think giving her to me is going to be quiet? )
awanderingbard: (MCU: Howard and Jarvis)
Title: Off-Duty Hours
Characters: Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark, Peggy Carter, Tony Stark, Anna Jarvis
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: A few general ones for the MCU at large
Pairings: Howard/Maria, Anna/Jarvis
Word Count 6,356
Summary: Jarvis comes home from an unusual day of satisfying his employer's whims, to find a rather large surprise waiting for him. Just in time for his birthday.
Author's notes: This is perhaps the only 'normal' story to come out of the crossover memes [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble and I did a while back. One of the questions was about a surprise party for Jarvis, and that seemed like the fluffy goodness I enjoy. It turned out to be quite a bit harder to write than I thought, due to the amount of characters I had to juggle. I think this is the fourth version. I hope it all reads okay in the end!

Set in 1973, or thereabouts. I have no idea what Jarvis' age is meant to be, so I've avoided mentioning it, and I've also left a blank for Peggy's husband's name. Tony is about three, and everyone else is around mid-fifties, I'm guessing, except for Maria, who is late-thirties.

Jarvis' cuff links are based on a real Paul Flato deisgn, and look like this, for those curious.

I did get him to tone it down. Otherwise, we'd have three hundred guests and a fire eater. )
awanderingbard: (SHERLOCK: Sherlock cameo)
Title: Twinkle Toes
Characters: John, Abby, Mrs Hudson, Sherlock, Sarah
Rating: G
Warnings/Triggers: none
Spoilers: none
Pairings: John/Sarah
Word Count 3,670
Summary: Abby's dance camp is having a family day. John and Mrs Hudson show up to be proud, but it remains to be seen whether Uncle Sherlock is going to join them.

Author's notes: Set in the Abby 'verse.

A visitor to my journal (I don't know how to link to Google+ users, sorry!) mentioned she'd liked to see an 'Abby's first dance recital' fic. Inspired by some of my memories of summer dance camp when I was little. It also gave me a chance to do more with Mrs Hudson in this 'verse. Short and fluffy.

I'm not sure if this will be interesting to anyone, but I always like seeing speedpaints and progressions of art stuff, so I thought other people might as well.

This is a sort of step-by-step of a daemon portrait, of James Hathaway and his daemon, Ismini. Not really a tutorial, though I'm happy to clarify if anyone has any questions.

I use Paint Shop Pro 18, and The GIMP.

Images used are this one, from a Google search, and this one, from Wikimedia commons.

Ismini is a Mountain weasel, but I couldn't find a good picture of a mountain weasel (they're shy), so I used a polecat, which is also in the mustela family, and changed her colour to look a little more like a mountain weasel. But she is still too dark. But we take what we can get.

Pro-tip, if you click here, you can view it as a slideshow and not have to click in and out of each image link. Just use the arrows to go ahead or back.
