Stolen from my girl [livejournal.com profile] _medley_:

Ask me what happens after the end of one of my stories. I may have more than one answer depending on the story (and the question). Or tell me your own theories--really, I'd love to hear!

The fun part of this meme is going back and rereading things. My first thought was "The Seventh Law," but your note on that one says you don't know what happens next, so...How about when the Serenity crew got the puppy back to the ship? *g*

I'll have a go!

What happens after the end of "Child's Play"? I'd like to think Graylin comes back eventually to Chicago to visit Harry when she's a little older.

Actually, the Seventh Law is sort of in the works of becoming a longer story. There's an adventure there somewhere that I need to write out eventually.

The puppy lives in River's room and she talks to it more than she talks to anyone else in the crew. He lies on the floor next to her when she's flying the ship. He also has a nasty habit of always being where Mal is going to step and then squeaking pitifully when Mal accidentally steps on him. Mal always gets in trouble for this from the girls, of course, even though it isn't his fault. He also went on a rampage through the medlab. Simon always remembered to keep the door shut after that. :D

Ooo. This is hard, but I want to ask a question, so... how about after your Christmas Quartet? Either in the weeks after or the following Christmas (or both). How has their relationship changed?

I imagine Graylin writes to Harry a lot and sends him more drawings. I sort of picture him having a secret drawer of butterfly drawings he doesn't want anyone to know about. Graylin would definitely visit Harry, probably when she comes to visit her Aunt Jordanna. I can also imagine him unhesitatingly hopping on a plane to England if she ever needed his help.

One thing that I wanted to include in the story was Morgan's reasons for being so interested in Graylin. I couldn't find a place for it, though, and I considered doing a companion piece but Morgan doesn't need to explain his motivations to Harry, you know? He wouldn't feel he needed to justify himself. In short - when Tamsin first came to Chicago, she was very emotional, naturally, and caused a few accidents of a magical nature. Morgan had to pick up the pieces a few times and sort of took it upon himself to make sure she got through alright. Not doting, of course, but casually keeping an eye on her until Graylin was born. That's the reason he was so keen on getting to Graylin after Tamsin's death - he felt guilty he wasn't there to protect her and wanted to compensate by protecting Graylin.

Hehe. Well, I think that Harry is more confident with Murphy - more determined to 'win' her if you will, now that he has proof she likes him in that way. I picture Murphy being a bit skittish when it comes to men - she's been through a nasty divorce and doesn't want to go there again. I think she'd be inclined to retreat when Harry advances, except for those few moments she lets herself go. Which would confuse poor Harry, who doesn't do subtlety well. Anna would be doing her best to get the two of them together. She'd make sure Harry got invited for dinner or along on whatever they were doing and then make herself disappear to leave them alone. I imagine by the next Christmas, they would be pretty serious about each other. I sort of have my 'normal' verse where Harry and Murphy get together and my AU verse where Harry and Mira get together and Murphy has more of a best-friend/cool aunt role. I think either way works for them - they make good friends/partners and then there's always that possibility of something else that works just as well.

Yay!

I can see that so clearly. *g* Might be part cat...

Hehe. I'm never good at coming up with alien menaces, though. I have to work on that. :D

My Scotties do that, actually. Especially Puzzle. She seems to have been cursed by the gods to be eternally hungry and is always right at your feet when you're in the kitchen. Then, since she is a princess, she is very upset when you have the audacity to step on her.

I love backstory Part of the reason I love coming up with characters is that I get to make up whole histories for them. lol

Hee. Thanks. Keep it on the DL, though. Morgan wouldn't want word getting around that he has a heart. ;-)

My cat will *lie down* right behind me (RIGHT behind me) when I'm standing at the stove, and then gets all huffy when I trip on him. *g* Heh--I can just imagine Puzzle's reaction to your *nerve.*
