I am a middle, with an older brother and a younger (and no sisters). I think I am not a typical middle, though: I was the responsible one. My older brother was a flake, and my younger brother was a twerp. They turned out much better as adults and are more than decent human beings.
Mycroft and Sherlock clearly haven't gotten to the "much better as adults" part.
