TV!Bob is an amalgam of a number of characters from the books--Bob, Michael, Thomas. Book!Bob is basically snark and exposition in a bottle, though he does get some characterization in the later novels.
-Colour Synthesia for his name: of aka - Had an older brother and a younger sister (she died shortly after birth) -Winifred looks very much like Waterhouse's Lady of Shalott (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/JWW_TheLadyOfShallot_1888.jpg) in my mind. - My mental image of Bob always has him wearing something like this (http://postimg.org/image/ochbox339/), though I'm fairly sure he didn't wear anything like that on the show. - Was very fond of his owner during the Victorian era and bases most of his wardrobe on his style.
