Newsies
While Jack Kelly (Christian Bale) is singing "Santa Fe", there's a part where he's riding a horse. The part when his arms are thrown out and he is bent back, he is actually riding on the shoulders of his stunt master.
Singing in the Rain
After they finished the "Good Morning" number, Debbie Reynolds had to be carried to her dressing room because she had burst some blood vessels in her feet. Despite her hard work on the "Good Morning" number, Gene Kelly decided that someone should dub her tap sounds, so he went into a dubbing room to dub the sound of her feet as well as his own.
The Slipper and the Rose
Over 800 girls were considered for the part of Cinderella, and around 150 were interviewed before Gemma Craven was picked.
Babes in Toyland
To promote the movie, the wrap party was scripted and aired on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (1961), which had recently debuted on NBC. (This was simply the old "Disneyland" series, but with a new name and on a new network, and this time in color.) The wrap-party episode was hosted by Annette Funicello and Disney himself who explained clips from the movie while introducing the cast. Also featured was a soft shoe dance by Ray Bolger and a bongo drums solo by Tommy Sands. Ann Jillian performed the song "A Flock of Sheep Named Henry" with Henry Calvin, and Ed Wynn was presented with his Mouseketeer hat by Tommy Kirk.
Arsenic and Old Lace
Some 20 years before filming this movie, actress Jean Adair had helped to nurse a very sick vaudeville performer named Archie Leach back to health; by the time she was asked to reprise her Broadway "Arsenic and Old Lace" role as Aunt Martha for this film, Adair and Leach, now known as Cary Grant, were old friends.
Kate & Leopold
The violin piece being performed during Kate and Leopold's rooftop dinner is Jascha Heifetz's transcription of Leopold Godowsky's "Alt-Wien", or "Old Vienna". Godowsky subtitled his work, originally written for solo piano, "Whose yesterdays look backward with a smile through tears".
A Knight's Tale
When Chaucer first introduces "Sir Ulrich" in his speech and the crowd does not react at first, because the Czech extras could not understand the speech. This reaction, or lack of it, was left in.
Emma (1996)
Mrs. Bates and Miss Bates, mother and daughter in the film, are played by real-life mother and daughter Phyllida Law and Sophie Thompson (who are also real life mother and sister to Academy Award winning actress and screenwriter 'Thompson, Emma' ).
Love Actually
When David arrives at No. 10 Downing Street, his tie changes 11 times between shots when meeting Natalie. Apparently, Hugh Grant had changed his tie after a post-lunch nap and no one noticed at first. They decided to "play with it" and went all out and changed the tie 11 times just for the heck of it.
Beauty & the Beast (1991)
Art director Brian McEntee color keyed Belle so that she is the only person in her town who wears blue. This is symbolic of how different she is from everyone else around. Later, she encounters the Beast, another misfit, also wearing blue.
