Perfect! I think I know how Alec felt, and I'm sure Brilliant Husband does: he consulted so many people getting the ring and setting up a dinner to ask the question that everyone knew, including friends of his friends whom I hadn't met; for a few months there, I'd occasionally meet one of these friends of his friends, and he or she would say, "Oh, you're the one to whom my friend's roommate proposed!" Someone very nearly asked me if I'd accepted before he proposed but realized at the last moment that it might be too soon (the ring hadn't arrived and the dinner had been postponed, though she didn't know that). So this story really hits the spot for me, although I'm glad BH didn't propose in a mortuary.
Alec's worries and ways of dealing with Molly seem very real, too. She has been through a lot: a psychopathic boyfriend, a crush on Sherlock, being caught up in the Fall. . . . I'm not surprised her mother is difficult.
