Oliver, no!
Jan. 18th, 2014 05:58 pmMy laptop, the brand new one, started behaving like the old one did before my father suggested I just buy a new one (a legitimate thought, that one was old and sucky anyway). I woke up to Windows informing me it needed to update, and I naively agreed, and when it restarted, every time I opened an Internet browser, it BSOD'd me. This is exactly what happened to my old laptop, and in neither case can I figure out what the hell is going on. I have never had this happen in my entire twenty some years of being a computering girl, and I started when I was four. Now it's happened twice on two different laptops within a month. Rolling back to a restore point has not helped, and I cannot get anything useful on the Internet, and my brother said he would come over around 3:30 and it is now six and he is not here, nor answering his phone. So, I have decided to reinstall Windows and see if that helps. I haven't owned the laptop for long, and almost all my important stuff is still on my thumb drive from moving it over, so it seemed like the best option. I hope it helps, as I am very stumped.
On the upside, I now I have a fic bunny of a tech support!Q nature. But I can't write it, because my laptop is stupid!
This has been a hissy fit, thank you for listening.

Date: 2014-01-18 11:30 pm (UTC)I wish I could say something helpful, but I'm a Mac person. A Mac person who recently spent 90 minutes dealing with a Microsoft Excel problem: the first 75 minutes looking for online help following the authoritative-sounding advice there only to improve nothing, and the remaining 15 doing it my own way and getting it done right.
On second thought, you might want to be very careful with advice you find online.
Good luck!

Date: 2014-01-19 03:08 pm (UTC)I've literally never had any trouble with Windows, and we've always used it. This is the first time. But since I started using the old laptop, and the new one, I've been exposed to Windows 7 and 8. I was till using Windows XP on my PC, and so it may just be that new Windows does, in fact, suck as much as they say it does. It's certainly counterintuitive, but I don't know if that's because I've never used it before. If I wasn't so used to doing it a different way, it might be easier.
I've reinstalled Windows, and now it seems *knock on wood* to be okay. But I can't do that every time it happens, so I hope it doesn't happen again.
