This is true. My mum is a nurse, and she learned to never assume anything about anyone's relationships, and to always ask 'and who is this with you?' instead of assuming it's platonic or unplatonic. Same-sex couples have more rights in England than elsewhere, which is good. It's not perfect, of course, but my research has told me they can serve openly in the military, and adopt children, and now they are legally allowed to be wed instead of just in a civil partnership.
