There's a medic on stand-by, apparently, to prevent that sort of thing, and the creator of the show sits in the room with them and prompts them, and definitely coralls them around to make sure they're comfortable. There's one moment where a girl announced she wants to lie down and drink, and the next shot is her on the couch, with a pillow and blanket, and holding a glass of wine. The level of drunkeness seems to range from just tipsy enough to start rambling to 'having this conversation from the floor', so I assume the people who are drinking set their own parameters. I totally get if it's not your thing, I'm just a history nerd, so I enjoy the level of passion that comes out of these people on subjects they only read about shorty before getting drunk. Comedy Central has an app, apparently, where you can watch the first season for free without subscribing to the channel, so you can try if you have device for that. I can't do that from Canada, but you can probably do it from the States.
Or you could look at the 'drunk history' tag on tumblr, they have lots of gifs and you don't need to see the drunk people. :-)
