I feel this is basically the story of Tony's daemon and his parents' daemons. Especially Maria's.
Dora's daemon commiserates. He had three Tonys to raise, btw.
Speaking of Maria, I was listening to some Broadway stuff and looking up some stuff in relation to that, and Donna Murphy (http://37.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0hq802U4L1qgvv6oo1_500.png) sort of looks like my mental image of an older Maria.
