I'm writing an Avengers story from Thor's POV. Do I use British or American spellings? Usually I try to keep the spelling and word choice consistent with the origins of the character narrating, but Thor is actually an alien, even if he sounds British, and the rest of the cast are American or pretending to be, and the setting is in America.

I could always use Canadian spelling, which is whichever spelling occurs to you first.

Use British. Everyone says that Tom Hiddleston set the whole tone for the accent used by the Asgardians. And since Avengers IS set in the US, using UK spellings would be "alien", lol.

Well, technically Thor is a Norse god (they seem to be leaning on Norwegian origin in the movies) and Hemsworth is Australian (I assume they spell things the same as Brits). But I'd say the canon to consult would be the original Marvel comics, which I would guess was very much American spelling. I found some good info on the original comics over at the Marvel wiki (http://marvel.com/characters/60/thor) and Comic Vine (http://www.comicvine.com/thor/4050-2294/). This Comics Alliance article (http://comicsalliance.com/thor-comics/) has some pages reprinted with speech bubbles.
