I think the thing you aren't working on always looks shinier because you haven't gotten to the hard part of writing it yet, so when you're in the middle of the hard part of the story you're always thinking something else would be easier to write.
This sums up my middle school education.
I've settled on 'Some Angst but Also a Lot of Good Things for Steve Rogers' for this Christmas party fic.
I'm not sure if it's straightforward angst if the nice thing Steve gets also makes him kind of sad.
