aelfgyfu_mead: Deep Space 9 crew around bridge of Defiant (Deep Space 9)
I think my concussion cost me just under an hour: I remembered drivers going both ways looking at me and letting me through (yes, I was on a bicycle). I do not remember the driver passing on the right on the far side who hit me. I don't remember being hit, flying through the air (I read someone's statement on that), the ambulance, or a while at the hospital. I think I lost 45 minutes to an hour all told—because I had my helmet on. I'd have lost a heck of a lot more, possibly my life, if I hadn't been wearing a helmet.

The weirdest memories are these:
I remember a police officer being there. I remember asking him for the second and third time, and knowing it was the second and third time (at least?), whether the driver had been hurt, but not remembering the answer.
I remember being shown a phone book (the good old days!) and being told that there were several businesses with the name of my husband's business. I was asked to pick which one was his so they could call him. I chose basically at random—I thought a number looked right but couldn't actually remember it. It was right: he later pointed out that they are actually all the same company, just different divisions. Neither I nor the nurse noticed it at the time, but they all had the same phone number!

I also remember a hallucination or dream where I was being treated by Dr. Bashir of Deep Space 9, and he was talking to Kira about me. I'm not sure when I had it; it felt like it slotted in place of the missing memories at the hospital. The first thing I remember is the cervical collar being removed as they told me that I had no spinal injuries. They had done x-rays before that, and I don't remember those at all.

The memories I have are very sharp, I think from being recalled so many times as I sought the ones I thought I'd lost. It's more that I never made them, apparently.

I too am fascinated by people's head injury experiences. Most are worse than mine.
