I think Brilliant Husband's dad did–not so much what wouldn't work but what could be better, and usually in Q&A form instead of just telling him. So he tends to do it to Daughter, who HATES IT WITH A PASSION.

I have a sort of headcanon that Maria tries to get Howard to do a 'stop and reflect' thing with Tony, trying to teach him a process of 'stop, discuss project, praise project, say what works about project, then maybe polite suggest improvements to project'. But Howard, because he's so bright, just doesn't have the patience when he can see so clearly what's not going to work. He wants to save Tony the time he's going to waste on it, and he forgets to be gentle about it, and treats him like an employee at work instead of a kid.
