Harry was following Morgan up the stairs when Morgan ran into the shield. So the shield is up toward the top, with Morgan a step or two below and Harry a few steps below him. If Morgan faced Harry then the shield would be behind him. So why might Morgan have worried about a curse (or any other spell) he cast at Harry bouncing off the shield? :/ I don't see how that would've worked -- I think I'm missing something.
Harry passed Morgan to see what was up with the shield and was able to pass through it, then he turned around and was facing Morgan, so Harry was higher up on the stairs than Morgan was. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. Sometimes things work in your mind and then are hard to describe on paper. :)
