There’s a phrase in one episode of Miss S that I’m sure has to be an idiom that was totally unexplained. ‘Hit yourself with a piece of tofu and die’. Google tells me they use it in Japanese too and it means something like ‘go take a long walk off a short pier’, and I figured it was something like that from the context, but it made me laugh because it was so random.

I used to do a lot of translation of French lyrics into English for a Disney board and for a website about French musicals, and I always tried to get the meaning across more than the literal phrasing, but I know that there’s varying viewpoints on that.
