I didn't realize that neurotypical people can filter out background noise Wait, what? This is news to me! I think I'm fairly neurotypical, and I have high executive function, but I had seen those Loop earplugs myself and considered them because I'm often terrible at filtering. If a tv or radio is on in the room, I usually cannot read. Occasionally, if I concentrate hard and am not too tired, I can do it. If the noise is chaotic like at an airport, it all becomes background, but in the house? I fantasized about living in a big house so that I could get away from noise.
Are they comfortable? I don't generally do well with earplugs because my ears are sensitive. Even AirPods can get to me after a while, though I find AirPods better than a lot of generic earbuds.
It sounds like you're making big progress! 80% better is a lot (especially if it's anything like our house at the moment).
