My mum asked me to "pass [her] the Internet" tonight. She meant the iPad, which does indeed have an internet on it, but for a moment I went 'um, I don't think the internet will fit in my arms?' in my head before I figured out what she meant.

Also: Bandersnatch Cummerbund. This is totally the name of the Benedict Cumberbatch tribute band. That I just started. Right now. Anyone want to join?

"Bandersnatch Cummerbund"! It's AutoCorrect let loose, combining a Lewis Carroll word with a piece of clothing! It's brilliant! I was screaming laughing. I had to go tell Brilliant Husband. I said, "It's an actor whose name we know well, and it must be AutoCorrect substituting—" "Bandersnatch" was in fact his second guess (I've already forgotten the first).

I just don't understand how Benedict gets to be Bandersnatch. I get the Cummerbund/Cumberbatch connection. Cumberbatch is obviously not a common word. But Benedict would presumably be way more popular than Bandersnatch.

The best part is that there's a video on youtube of Cumberbatch reading The Jabberwocky and the last time I looked the first comment on it was simply 'Bandersnatch Cummerbund'.

I really hope he has a good sense of humour about it. From his Alan Carr interview he seems to be cool with how weird his name is.

A simple typo would trigger the autocorrect on the first name—I'm guessing something like "Banedict." If they'd had "Benedict" right, it should have stayed.

I once had a student turn in a paper where she'd run AutoCorrect without looking. It was about Arthur and his knight Balin—or, as Microsoft Word made them, Author and his knight Balloon. She was mortified when I showed her: every blessed occurrence of each name had been changed. You'd think Word could handle Arthur, too, but this was a number of years ago, and apparently it couldn't.

I used to rpg with a girl who had a character named Kenadie and everytime I wrote the word, it would politely ask if I meant 'gonads'. I've just recently learned d the wonders of autocorrect since my dad got an iPad. It's often times very useful, but when it messes up, it messes up bad.
