Stolen from...myself...

Name a character and I will tell you:
1) The most interesting canon fact about them
2) Something from my personal canon about them

All my writing fandoms are open for this, as well as my watching fandoms. Also, if you would prefer to do an original character, I'll give you two facts from my personal canon. As always, feel free to request more than one character.

Bob from Dresden Files? (either canon)

Hrothbert of Bainbridge
1. He gave up being human again to save Harry. That's pretty cool.
2. My personal canon family history for Bob is that his father died when Bob was a child and his uncle came to live with the family. He had an older brother and a sister who died shortly after she was born. His mum was a bit sickly and weak.

I love that (#1) about him). And awwww, Bob, I can see why that would be your personal canon.

Sherlock Holmes
1. He wanted to be a pirate. I will one day totally use that for a story.
2. Sherlock has taught himself to lucid dream, so he can still work on problems even while he's doing the mundane task of sleeping.

Oohh! I like that fanon! Very nice. He already does the mind palace thing while he's awake, so I can easily see him having similar habits while asleep.

I have a little fact file for Sherlock because I was trying to hash out a backstory and when I was first working on it, I had just read an article on lucid dreaming thought it suited his temperament. I also see him as a kid who sleepwalked and had night terrors due to his erratic schedule. I picture the Holmes' as a family of insomniacs. :-)

That sounds like a neat reference file! I have a few word documents with various character quotes that I'll sometimes read to get into a character's headspace, but yours sounds more fun. :)

I completely agree with this!

Oh that's a good idea! Usually I listen to interviews with the actors, if possible, to get a feel for the way they speak. I hadn't thought of a quote file, though I do have my favourites from the Dresden Files books, just for fun.

Greg Lestrade from BBC's Sherlock!

DI Lestrade
1. There aren't a lot of canon facts for Lestrade. I guess I think it's cool that he's known Sherlock for five years and still puts up with him. ;D
2. Lestrade met Sherlock after Sherlock got sober, but his making it very clear that he wouldn't be allowed to work with the police if he ever truly relapses is one of the things that has kept Sherlock largely out of drugs over the years.

#2 makes me have strangely fuzzy feelings. I like the idea of Lestrade's actions keeping Sherlock off self-harming behavior.

My personal canon has Lestrade as Sherlock's John before John arrived. Not as good at it as John and taking more of a father or big brother role, but making sure Sherlock ate every once in awhile and generally keeping an eye on him. I have reams of backstory for those two characters for various fics I've attempted. Funnily enough, I don't have as much of a head canon for John. I guess we know a little more about him than we do for the other characters.
