I bring this one back a lot, but it's my favourite. So...there.

Character Questions Meme
1. Go here to generate 10 random numbers between 1 and 100. DO THIS FIRST.

2. Choose a character that I write or have written, be it a canon person (Sherlock), an OC (Dr. Forrester) or whatever. Feel free to pick a character that was used last time, as the questions will most likely be different this time around.

3. Comment with the character and the numbers, and then I will answer the corresponding questions from here.

If you choose Mal or Fay or Graylin (or anyone of a minor age), any questions inappropriate to ask a child will be answered as though they were adults. You can choose a few characters if you so choose.

Sherlock Holmes, if you please. I can't get enough of you writing in his voice. :)

Awww! Thank you! I'm actually glad you asked for Sherlock. I like hashing out his backstory and I'm toying with young!Sherlock stories, so it's good fodder. :-D

Um, we might have to pretend that Sherlock is slightly tipsy here, because otherwise I think he would get distracted and wander off to do an experiment or something. Or just give really terse answers. So let's pretend he's in a good mood!

What is your worst memory?

I don't keep a lot of bad memories, unless they might prove useful in the future. I suspect I've deleted most traumatic incidents. Probably the time I fell out of a tree and broke my leg as a child. It was some time before anyone found me and I was in shock. I didn't even get the bird's nest I was trying to reach.

If you died or went missing, who would miss you?

Oh, I suppose John and Mrs Hudson would make a fuss. Mycroft. Mummy. Lestrade maybe.

Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.

What a stupid question. Things I am very good at: remembering useful information, observing and noticing what other people miss, using logic to put facts together into a coherent scenario.

I try not to do the things I consider myself to be bad at. It's a waste of time. But, if you're going to be annoying about it: remembering useless information that is important to other people, dealing with idiots, and keeping track of John's girlfriends' names.

Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

I play the violin at all hours, I don't speak to people for days, I have an addictive personality, I dislike eating or sleeping when I'm on a case, I do experiments in the kitchen, I prefer to text and I have a very bad nicotine habit.

If you require more, I suggest you ask John. I bet he could give you an itemized list.

What is your earliest memory?

It's impossible to say for sure, as childhood memories are hard to put in order. One of my earliest memories is discovering my mother playing the violin in our music room at home and demanding to know how it worked. I believe I would have been two or three years old at the time.

How close are you to your family?

I never know what people mean by that. It's not physical proximity, I'm assuming, because the answer to that is 'far too close to Mycroft and some distance from my mother'.

If you mean how well we get along, I have what I consider to be a normal relationship with my mother, though I don't see her regularly. I do not get along well with my brother and see him far too often. My father is dead. My relationship with him was...fine.

What is your most treasured possession?

My wits. Or, if you want to be less abstract, I would be very annoyed if my microscope went missing. Or my violin. That would be hard to replace.

Are you generally organized or messy?

My brain is extremely organized. My physical belongings are not. It's a constant source of rancour from John and Mrs Hudson.

Do you like yourself?

Yes. I have flaws, like all people, but they don't cause any real annoyance to me and, as I'm thirty-five years old, they are unlikely to change now.

What do you have in your pockets?

My mobile. Keys to the flat. My wallet. A portable magnifying glass. A pen. A lighter. A pair of tweezers. A plastic, resealable bag. One of Lestrade's warrant cards. And a plastic dinosaur, which is related to a case and not something I habitually carry.

Ha! It's probably not the last time I'll prompt Sherlock on your memes. I'm fond of him and fond of your interpretation of him, so it's a win-win situation! I'm glad it benefits us both. :D

Hee! I love how aware of his flaws Sherlock is. He's not one of those people who's surprised to hear he has them. No, he TELLS PEOPLE UPFRONT WHAT THEY ARE.

I can definitely see this. I once read a fanfic in which kid!Sherlock disliked anyone seeing him fail at anything, and so he would practice any skill he wanted to learn in secret until he felt himself to have mastered those skills enough for public presentation. I picture his violin use among these.

And aw, I like Sherlock's vague confusion about the notion of "closeness." I do wonder about his parents, a bit. Is his dad being dead canon or fanon?

I think somebody is secretly eager to see the next Doctor Who episode. Or at least wants to harass Anderson. XD

Thank you for this! It was a lot of fun to read.

Yes! I am total agreement there. I think I put a similar thing into Road Hazards. It's a trait I have myself, so I threw it onto Sherlock. I like to learn everything by myself where no one can see me make mistakes.

There's a bit in one of the commentaries where Benedict starts talking about something that was cut out of the episode and Gatiss cuts him off, before he can fully explain it. It's really vague and there's no discussion of whether his father is alive or not, but I've somehow decided that he's dead from it. Also because we've heard Sherlock speak about 'Mummy' but not 'Father'. It's not official canon, and the only thing we know about Holmes from the original stories is that he has a French grandmother. It's my own personal canon. I have a rather extensive head canon for the Holmes family, because backstory and I are one day going to get married and have little exposition babies. ^_^

Both these things are very true. Also, I think at the time I was working on a story where Mycroft was talking to Sherlock about dinosaurs and debating whether that was going to work in light of all the Anderson/Dinosaur crack out there.

But I also need Rupert Graves in safari gear very, very much.
