35. When was the time you were the most frightened?

When my dad had his heart attack. I've been in a lot of frightening situations at work, but I usually only realize afterwards that they were frightening. I'm too in the moment. I knew then that things were bad, though. It was scary.

65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?

Despise is a very strong word. I despise murders in general--the ones that plan it out, anyway. Crimes of passion are different. Those are wrong decisions in the moment. But one specific person? It's too strong a word, but I don't really like my mother very much. She walked out when I was a kid. I don't know how you do that to your daughter.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

My bosses over the years, before I was promoted. Sometimes my juniors, too. I was lucky to have a good example set for me. Some cops aren't made to teach, but my preceptors were.

52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?

Anna, without question. And, as a cop, you've sort of agreed you would die to save a life. I don't consider that a bad thing. I don't know if I could live with myself if someone was killed because I didn't try to save them.

93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?

I just want to see Anna grow-up and become a good person. The rest is icing on the cake.

76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?

I have a drink or two on occasion to relax, but I'm not one for getting drunk. I've seen what drugs and drink do to people. I take sleeping pills, but show me a homicide detective who doesn't.

73. What is your favorite food?

My grandmother Murphy used to make coddle when I was a kid. I've never been able to get the recipe right, but I still make it sometimes for comfort food. Anna likes it.

77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?

Probably working, but if not hopefully home and being quiet reading or watching TV. If I have Anna for the weekend, we watch movies and play board games.

78. What makes you laugh?

Lots of things. You have to keep a sense of humour. Usually Dresden, though. Either with or at him.

Sid Kirmani. He's my second-in-command, and a good cop. We respect each other. He has my back, and I have his. That's what you need.

Dresden. He thinks he's a wizard. He might be. He's nuts, but useful, and a really sweet guy. He has my back, too. A lot. I think he's probably my best friend.

I always do Sherlock in this meme slightly more open than he normally would be. Otherwise, I think he'd just get up and leave after the first question was asked. ;-)

55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

John Watson, I suppose. He manages to live with me, which is admirable on its own. He's sensible, and doesn't annoy me too much. I respect his loyalty and his ability to connect with people, even if those aren't traits I want to cultivate in myself.

62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?

John. Lestrade, perhaps. It were very, very desperate, I would go to Mycroft. He is beyond annoying, but he gets things done.

21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

Well enough. My family didn't...operate like other families do. We didn't do things as a family very often. We occupied the same space, but we didn't neccessarily interact. When we did, it went fine. I don't remember a lot of fighting, in any case. Aside from myself and Mycroft, in our later years at home.

94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Precisely where I am now. It's fine, I don't wish to change it.

79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?

Stupidity. Otherwise, according to John, I have no sense of shame.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

Apparently addiction is some sort of disease and defect in my brain, but I think that's just an excuse used by people too weak to quit. I'm otherwise physically fit, and I don't eat enough food to have developed an allergy to anything.

27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

I'm not, contrary to popular belief. I did some experimenting at university. There was a professor, and a fellow student. I wanted to see what the fuss was about. My results were inconclusive.

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?

I don't care, particularly. Evil things are what keep me in business and, thus, sane. Rating them on a scale is irrelevent.

38. What is your best memory?

More rating of things. Lovely. I suppose...I have a very vivid memory of digging up the back garden in search of fossils, and it turning into a summer-long affair with all members of my family participating at one point or another. That was...good.

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?

Extremely satisfactory. I was given encouragement when I needed it, and left alone when I desired it, and comfort if I required it. All that was neccessary. A little less Mycroft and a little more access to chemicals would have made it perfect.

Oh, this is brilliant! Thanks so much, and thanks for the link to the previous meme—I can’t get enough of the way you write Sherlock. Laughing so hard at “I don't eat enough food to have developed an allergy to anything,” and I’m so intrigued by Sherlock and Mycroft’s childhood. I’m glad Sherlock seems to have had a happy childhood and is so happy now, also. He deserves it. :)
