When I was writing my Molly/Alec fic, I was trying to figure out what their height difference would look like. Turns out, Daniel Radcliffe has my back. Dan is 1-2 inches taller than Loo Brealey, but probably about the same as Molly in her shoes.

There is also a useful height comparison tool, where you can enter the height of yourself (or one character) and choose a celebrity (one that matches the height of your other character) and it will do a rough comparison of height.

Now you know.

How fortuitous! Hiddleston is really tall, but you can't always tell with some of the people he shares the screen with in Avengers.

I went through years of my life thinking that Patrick Stewart was a little short when he's actually 5'10 because Jonathan Frakes is six foot four (and his hair probably added an inch).

I had the reverse with Freeman and Cumberbatch. I assumed Martin was a good 5'10 or 11 and so
Cumberbatch had to be 6'2 or more to be taller than him. Turns out Martin is 5'7 and Ben is 6'0, which is still tall, but not scary tall.

A Height Comparison Tool? Wow! You know even more about your characters than I realised! :)

Oh and thanks again for the link to the Molly icons which I immediately made use of.

The longer you stick around here, the more you will realize how weird I am. Just so you know. I'm the type of author who has engagement rings that are never described picked out, and has given everyone family member with names and children. I think it comes from my RPGing days, when all you have to control is your own character, so you concentrate on making that character as full as possible.

I'm also quite visual, so I like to see what I'm writing, even if I never describe it.

And you're welcome! I'm glad you're getting use out of them. I made a slew of Sherlock icons, but Molly and Mycroft get all the love.

Man the internet is chock full of useful things.

This reminds me of an article that talked about James McAvoy and Dan Radcliffe getting cast in the new Frankenstein and how the article's author speculated it was due their similarly less than tall heights.

Isn't it though? There is even a website devoted to celebrity heights, and not just reporting what the celebs have stated as their heights, but with full on debates and evidence to prove a quarter or half inch either way, as though it were some great conspiracy.

Though I confess that most actors are shorter than I would have guessed, I imagine because of shoe lifts and apple boxes and trick photography to make them look better.

Still, it's wonderful for my detail obsessed self.
