I don't know anymore...
Aug. 4th, 2014 11:29 pmMy brain just decided to throw in some random Inspector Lewis into what is already a Sherlock/Skyfall daemons fic. Come on! I don't need this crap, brain. It did it so sneakily that I was two paragraphs down before I realized I'd just done it.
Yet another example of why giving me an imagination was a very poor decision on fate's part.

Date: 2014-08-05 11:26 pm (UTC)Anyways:
Hathaway: Ismini (from Greek 'knowledge'), a mountain weasel (http://www.all-about-ferrets.com/images/m_altaica.jpg) (extremely solitary, but will chat with other weasels, very agile and can swim, so she probably likes to row with James, have a folkloric reputation for being unlucky, and we all know being friendly with a Lewis character means you're either a murderer or a murderee)
Lews: Adala (meaning 'to act justly'), pretty much always called 'Addie', a Bernese mountain dog (http://static.ddmcdn.com/en-us/apl/breedselector/images/breed-selector/dogs/breeds/bernese-mountain-dog_03_lg.jpg) (gentle, friendly, good with kids, loyal, not very energetic, cuddly and fluffy).

Date: 2014-08-06 12:40 am (UTC)Every animal in the mustela genus are adorable. They have such cute little intense, intelligent faces. I definitely wanted someone that would sit on Hathaway's shoulder, so he could snark at it easily.
I love Lewis' daemon. The description is so perfect. I can easily see Kevin Whately interacting with her.
It took me two seconds to find him a daemon. I looked for Hathaway's all day. He very nearly had a ringtail, but I thought the weasel looked more like him.
Innocent's daemon: Torin (gaelic for 'chief') the barn owl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_owl#mediaviewer/File:Tyto_alba_-British_Wildlife_Centre,_Surrey,_England-8a_%281%29.jpg). Regal, stern, associated with both wisdom and death, and when they get angry, they lean over and bob their sides from side to side, which I could see Innocent doing.
Hobson is still in the works.

I can so see Torin sitting on the back of Innocent's chair, glowering, while she berates someone.

That little one looks like she's sensing danger and is formulating a plan.
She's trying to figure out who the murderer is.

Date: 2014-08-06 04:13 am (UTC)Thanks! The name took forever to find. My obsessive need to have the right name hampers me sometimes. I wish I could just go 'that sounds right'. But I can't.
You select really cute images of the animals. It makes me want to hug all of them. Although I'm sure many would object to a sudden human squeeze.
Yeah, don't commit The Great Taboo. No one likes that stuff.
I'm just picturing Addie coming in to talk to nervous witnesses, though. Wouldn't she be comforting? I bet she gets a lot of snuggles from upset daemons.
I'm trying to write Q and Sherlock's daemons interacting. I can't tell if they would be more handsy than their humans, in terms of body contact.

Date: 2014-08-06 04:21 am (UTC)I sort of tried to lean more your way of putting some thought into the names of the last few daemons I came up with. But quite often I end up becoming lazy in the meanings department ("It means 'strong'? Fine, that's fine.") and go with the sound of it.
Wouldn't she be comforting? I bet she gets a lot of snuggles from upset daemons.
I can very much see her curling up around a witness' daemon while the witness tearfully tries to get through their description of what they saw.

Well, since I can't see Sherlock and Q ever touching unless it's in order to physically help the other do something ("Oh, you've fallen. Do you want to get up? Here's my hand."), I'd imagine Tzo and Efie would touch more than their humans. I mainly imagine Tzo sort of poking at Efie with her beak to annoy her or get her attention.
But alternatively I can also see Tzo flying up somewhere high to get something for Efie since it would be easier for her and Efie quickly ripping up bits of food with her paws and leaving them in piles for Tzo for easy consumption while she and Sherlock are working on a case.

Date: 2014-08-06 04:35 am (UTC)I have the opposite problem of 'oh, that meaning is perfect' and then the sound is all wrong or the name is too fancy. Martin Crieff's daemon was originally named 'Yolana' which means 'to soar', but then he had a frogmouth, and there was no way a frogmouth could pull off something as elegant as 'Yolana'.
I can very much see her curling up around a witness' daemon while the witness tearfully tries to get through their description of what they saw.
And while Hathaway is quite good with witnesses, I picture Ismini being more of a 'pat, pat' sort of daemon while Hathaway respectfully shoves tissues at the witness.
I'd imagine Tzo and Efie would touch more than their humans. I mainly imagine Tzo sort of poking at Efie with her beak to annoy her or get her attention.
That's funny, because that is precisely what I have Tzo doing so far. Where Efie is a bit more touchy-feely. It turns out she's a bit of a sweetheart. A snarky sweetheart.

Oh, I love this idea. Mostly because I now want a fic where the three brothers are working on something and their daemons are just using what skills they have in perfect cooperation while the brothers bitch and moan and fight and get shit done.

Date: 2014-08-06 04:46 am (UTC)That would be an excellent illustration of how the Holmes brothers actually work really well together. Even if on the surface they are constantly squabbling. Hisoka since she's the largest can do all the heavy lifting of objects. It'll be ironic since Mycroft detests legwork but Hisoka of the brothers can the most amount of moving large objects around.
It turns out she's a bit of a sweetheart. A snarky sweetheart.
That makes sense because of the three, Q is probably the most a sweetheart.

Date: 2014-08-06 04:58 am (UTC)Soka: Must I bring yet another jar over?
Tzo: I don't have fingers and Efie can fit inside the jar, so yes, you must. Hurry up!
That makes sense because of the three, Q is probably the most a sweetheart.
Q has the most morals, so I suppose it makes sense that Efie has the most concern about doing her daemonly job of provided moral guidance. Soka gave up years ago and Tzo is sort of aware that this is wrong, but can't really put up a good argument for why.

If Efie wants to joke around, she can put herself in the jar to make Soka's task a little more annoying.
Soka gave up years ago and Tzo is sort of aware that this is wrong, but can't really put up a good argument for why.
Efie: He really shouldn't do that. It would be wrong.
Soka: Are we really going to have to waste time on this?
Tzo: It does seem wrong. Because...why?
Efie: *sighs*

Maybe hanging out with Ismini during Hathaway's less disillusioned days taught her some more morals than the other Homes brothers received.
