I just like this meme.

Give me the name of a character I write or have written and I'll tell you:
-What they smell like
-How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc)
-What music they enjoy
-How much time they spend getting ready every morning
-Their favourite thing to collect
-Their family (siblings, parents, extended, etc.)
-A weird/obscure fear they have
-A secret skill

OCS and AUs welcome, as always. Feel free to ask for a couple of characters.

Putting this here to make it easier to respond from my iPad if necessary:

In the past I have done: Anderson, Mummy Holmes, Arthur Shappey, Kevin Ryan, Molly Hooper, Sarah Sawyer, Abby Watson, Mycroft Holmes, Q, Tony Stark (and Demira), and Sherlock Holmes.

Ooh ooh ooh, John from Abbyverse or Trioverse, please! :)

I'll give you Abby verse, I know more about that John. :-)

John Watson

What they smell like: John used to use the cheapest cologne that didn't smell terrible, due to a lack of funds and the futility of trying to smell good while fighting a war in a desert. He stopped wearing it when he met Sherlock, who threw it in the bin in the loo the day after he moved into Baker Street, which John took as a sign he should be wearing something else. Therefore, for a long time, he smelled only of soap, deodorant, and aftershave, which gave a general impression of 'this man has had a shower today, that's nice'. Sarah took him out and got him some proper cologne after they started dating again, which has a fresh, clean, scent. Now he gives the general impression of 'this man has had a shower today, and it was awesome'.
How they sleep: When alone, John sleeps on his back, with one arm over his head. Leftover from thin army bunks, where moving too much meant falling on the floor. When he's in bed with Sarah, he spoons like no one's business, holding her in a super death grip that can often only be escaped from by elbowing him in the stomach. He's been known to throw himself over her during nightmares, to try and protect her from what's going on. Sometimes neither of them wake up, and Sarah finds herself basically pinned by him in the morning.
What music they enjoy: John is a Motown nerd, to a rather embarrassing degree. He inherited this from his mum, who had LPs playing constantly when he was growing up. The only good thing Harry ever did for him was save Mum's LPs after she died, so that John could have them when he came home. He puts them on while he's writing. Also, and this is a secret, he used to sing Motown to Abby when he was trying to calm her down. Which might be why she tends to come in and dance when he has the LPs on.
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: 10-15 minutes. Up, shower (wash body, wash hair), get dried off, shave if necessary, apply deodorant and cologne, put on clothes, out the door.
Their favourite thing to collect: John isn't much of an active collector of stuff. He keeps a very simple, streamlined existence. He does keep all his case notebooks though. Once they're full, he files them on a shelf in the den and starts a new one.
Their family:
Hamish Watson (father, deceased)
Dorothy Watson (mother, deceased)
Harriet Watson (sister)

Dr Sarah Sawyer (wife)
Abigael Watson (daughter)

Dr Kenneth Sawyer (father-in-law)
Lynette Sawyer (step-mother-in-law)
Dr Helen McLachlan (mother-in-law)
Callum McLachlan (step-father-in-law)
Dr Leo Sawyer (brother-in-law)
Dr Henry Sawyer (brother-in-law)
Sisters-in-law, plus various nieces and nephews

A weird/obscure fear they have: It fortunately never got in the way of his work, but the idea of having an NG tube has always freaked him out a bit. Intubation was no problem when done orotracheally, but going in through the nose always took a bit of a pep-talk. He would probably have a major shit fit if he ever had to have an NG tube put into himself.
A secret skill: John's memory is pretty average, but when it comes to those games where you have to remember what everyone else has said ("I'm going on a trip and I'm bringing..."), John has never messed up. Sherlock put this to the test once. The game lasted three hours. It might have gone on longer except a client came in.

Loved this!!!

He's been known to throw himself over her during nightmares, to try and protect her from what's going on.

This is sad (because John’s still having nightmares) but also very sweet that he tries to protect her!

That’s fascinating about the “I’m going on a trip and I’m bringing…” game! I suppose it comes from the military mindset.

Thanks so much for doing this! Always fascinating insights. :)

I suppose it comes from the military mindset.

I think that's probably true. He's used to hearing orders and repeating them back.

Thanks so much for doing this! Always fascinating insights. :)

Thanks for playing! I always enjoy a good natter about all this useless headcanon I have.

Alec Thornton and Siger Holmes, please!

Alec Thornton

What they smell like: Like he just stepped out of the shower. His cologne has notes of bergamot, lemon, thyme, spearmint, black tea & cedarwood in it. There's occasionally a gentle whiff of coconut if he's run out of his own shampoo and used Molly's.
How they sleep: Alec sleeps precisely eighteen inches from the edge of the right side of the bed, on his right side, and never moves from this position. He does, however, make futile attempts to keep hold of a wiggling Molly, usually by spooning her. She often rolls around or switches positions in her sleep, and he tends to wake up with a fistful of her pyjamas or her wrist in his hand, as though he were desperately trying to prevent her from getting separated. He tends to go to bed early, since has to be up early for school. Saturday is sleep-in day.
What music they enjoy: Alec likes folk rock music, particularly anything with a celtic tinge to it--fiddles and mandolins and accordions. He likes music that he can put on in the background and stomp his feet to while he's grading homework or cooking. He's a bit of a hipster in that he enjoys music from really obscure bands.
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: About twenty minutes. He and Molly are usually dodging around each other in the loo, and have got pretty good about timing so that he's making breakfast while she's in the shower and he's in the shower while she's doing her hair and then they share the mirror while he's shaving and she's doing her make-up. It takes a bit of time to tame his curls (Molly taught him how), but less time to shave, as he has been sporting a goatee of late (Molly likes it).
Their favourite thing to collect: He accidentally has a friendship bracelet collection. He was given one by a young student, and wore it, which prompted more young students to make them for him, and he felt compelled to wear them, and at one point he had seven on his wrist before he created a policy to replace the oldest with the newest each time he receives one. But he keeps the ones he takes off in a box. At any given moment, he has about 3-5 on his left wrist.
Their family:
Neil Thornton (father, chef)
Gianna Thornton (step-mum, runs the restaurant, he calls her 'Gigi')
Victoria Chambers (mother, fashion buyer, affectionate but largely not a part of his life)

Nicola Venturi (step-sister, 38, divorced with three children)
Claudia Schnieder (step-sister, 35, married with two children)
Teresa Thornton (half-sister, 28, rather hopelessly single)
Daniel Thornton (half-brother, 26, living with his girlfriend)
Lee Thornton (half-brother, 24, single)

Molly Hooper (wife, a lab and autopsy tech)

Linda Hooper (mother-in-law)
Chris Hooper (brother-in-law, married, two children)
David Hooper (brother-in-law, married, no children)

Reed Drezler-Jones (godson, 4)

A weird/obscure fear they have: Skeletons in clothing. Zombies are fine. Skeletons are fine. Skeletons wearing clothing are not fine.
A secret skill: Largely due to an excessive comic book obsession as a child (and teen and adult), Alec can throw playing cards exceptionally well, though he can't charge them and have them explode, like Gambit. But he can hit whatever he wants with them, from quite a far distance away.

I love how he has a friendship bracelet collection. It's completely obvious that the children that he teaches loves him, because how could anyone not love Alec? And throwing playing cards is a skill that might just come in useful one day! Who knows, right? Thanks for answering!

Siger Holmes

What they smell like: Siger has a deep, musky smell from his cologne, which has notes of cedarwood, rum, cognac, jasmine and mandarin in it. His aftershave smells of oakmoss and rainwater. The overall impression is a masculine, deep, mysterious scent, but not overpowering.
How they sleep: Rarely. Siger suffers from intense insomnia, and probably only sleeps a few hours 2-3 nights per week, and then usually has one night every few weeks where he just collapses and sleeps for twelve hours at a stretch. He can't turn his mind off unless he's borderline exhausted and he can't sleep while he's thinking. He used to try and stay in bed with Dora early on in their relationship, but she told him lying there and watching her sleep was creepy, and to get up and do something. So, he does. If they do end up in bed together, they don't usually touch, as Dora is too used to sleeping on her own. But almost every morning he's home, he brings in the newspapers and they lie in bed together and read them. He also sticks around for a few hours if they've had sex, but as neither of them find it very important, it's not infrequent, but hardly regular.
What music they enjoy: Siger finds the music his family members make perfectly tolerable. Otherwise, he really doesn't have an interest in it.
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: Half an hour. Siger is a meticulous groomer, and never leaves the house looking less than his absolutely best, from lacquered hair to shining shoes. He never has stubble on his face, unless he's ill.
Their favourite thing to collect: Cuff links. He likes them, and they tend to be the one way his outfit is an expression of his personality. It's a gift he likes, so is often given to him, and thus, he has several pairs.
Their family:
Edward Holmes (father, an actuary)
Delia Holmes, nee Siger (mother, a homemaker)

Metrodra Holmes, nee Mycroft (wife, a homemaker and artist)

Mycroft Holmes (son, child)
Sherlock Holmes (son, child)
Trevelyan Holmes (son, child)

William Mycroft (father-in-law, retired spy translator of books)
Celestine Mycroft, nee Vernet (mother-in-law, amateur photographer)

Theodosia Archambault, nee Mycroft (sister-in-law, probably has a job)
Guillaume Archambault, (brother-in-law, probably also has a job)
Thaddeus Archmabault, (nephew, child)
Lysander Archambault (another nephew, child)
Sophronia Archambault (niece, girl child)
A weird/obscure fear they have: Stairs with open risers. Especially when using them with small children. A toddler could fall right through one of those, and he wouldn't put it past Sherlock to try.
A secret skill: He can write backwards, a skill developed from his admiration for Leonardo Da Vinci as a child.

This made me chuckle!

And it's interesting that Siger is such a meticulous groomer. I suppose it runs in the Holmes family? They all like looking good, eh? And writing backwards is pretty handy! Thanks for answering. :)

Steve Rogers and Issie?

Date: 2014-08-24 08:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com
What they smell like: America! Back in the day before the serum, Steve smelled mostly of medicine and shaving cream (he didn't need to shave much, but he did anyway). The fancy cologne for guys wasn't really a thing, and even post-serum, he smelled basically soapy, with a tinge of cigarette smoke (not his own, but everyone around him smoked). After he woke up and was allowed to know what year it was, he was given appropriate modern day hygiene products. Issie thinks Coulson probably picked them out. In any case, his cologne has a fresh, minty, pine scent to it.
How they sleep: Steve sleeps on his back, because that's how you sleep in the hospital when you've got things sticking out of you, and that's where he did a lot of sleeping as a kid. Then he got into the army, and sleeping your back was the best way to not fall out. Issie used to sleep pasted along his side, but after the serum, she was able to sleep on his stomach without bothering him, and she does that now, with her nose up by his chin. Neither of them sleep much--they don't need it, and Issie is a little worried they might not wake up again for another 70 years.
What music they enjoy: Steve is the biggest grandpa when it comes to modern music; he just doesn't get it. He misses the really happy, positive, elegant lyrics of the torch songs of his day. He likes the more retro singers, like Michael Bublé, who cover old songs but pop them up a bit. Mim has told Issie that makes him a pussy. Issie is totally cool with that.
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: Literally ten minutes. In and out of the shower, hair brushed, face shaved, smelly things splashed on. Issie figured out that hair gel is basically bryll cream, so he's figured out how to style it now. He works on 'there is no hot water left in this crappy New York orphanage' and 'you have five minutes to shower, soldier' time. A bath is a real luxury, and it's still hard for him to get his head around the fact that you can just have a bath and the water is all hot and you don't have to let someone else use it when you're done or use someone else's water. Issie splashes about a bit when he gets out, though. She likes the bubble bath stuff, which Mim assures her doesn't make her a pussy. Dudes in bubble baths are hot, apparently.
Their favourite thing to collect: Pens. Both Steve and Issie are pretty obsessed with pens.
Their family:
Sarah Rogers (mother, deceased)
Joseph Rogers (father, deceased)

A weird/obscure fear they have: Being frozen for another seventy years is sort of not your average fear. Also, Issie is a bit weirded out by doors that know when you're coming and open for you. Steve has finally managed to stop automatically thanking them.
A secret skill: Steve can knit a pair of socks, or mittens, or a scarf, in a day. He learned during the war effort to support the troops because he couldn't fight.

Hahaha! I like the idea of America smelling like soap and cigarettes. That's pretty American.

Neither of them sleep much--they don't need it, and Issie is a little worried they might not wake up again for another 70 years.

Oh! Look at you angsting!

He works on 'there is no hot water left in this crappy New York orphanage' and 'you have five minutes to shower, soldier' time.

This makes so much sense. New headcanon accepted.

Also, Issie is a bit weirded out by doors that know when you're coming and open for you. Steve has finally managed to stop automatically thanking them.

Hee! Steve being polite to technology is great! I can totally see Tony watching him thank the doors every time and being like, "That's going to get old so fast."

Oh! Look at you angsting!

Thanks! I've been practising!

Hee! Steve being polite to technology is great! I can totally see Tony watching him thank the doors every time and being like, "That's going to get old so fast."

Tony: I thought you were Captain America, not Captain Canada.
Steve: I'm sorry, it's a reflex.

I had a bit of a fic once where Steve is trying to talk with JARVIS and is never sure if he's supposed thank him or not.

I'm sure Jarvis would appreciate it. Or at least say he does. Tony would probably tell Steve not to spoil Jarvis with all these 'thank yous' and 'I appreciate its'

DUM-E; *picks up something Steve's dropped*
Steve: Erm, thanks.
DUM-E: *happy grabber clicks*
Tony: No, we never encourage him. He'll want to do it all the time now.
