For various reasons, mostly migraine-related, I haven't had my haircut in probably over a year, but I went today and had 19 inches taken off. And my hair is still to my clavicle. I also had it flatironed (my hair is so thick and curly that it takes two hairdressers, one on each side of my head, to get it done in one appointment allotment) and now I can't stop touching my hair because it's so light and smooth and pretty. It looks like Natasha's Winter Soldier hair at the moment, until I wash it and it turns more into a wilder version of her Iron Man 2 hair. I'll be taking the 19 inches of hair in to be donated, but I do feel a little sorry for the person who gets it. I realize they'll be happy to have hair at all, but my hair is not the easiest to maintain.

And apparently my before and after hair will be on the salon's instagram because the enthusiastic 20-year-old who helped flatiron my hair basically treated me like a unicorn. Whenever I go into the salon, everyone wants to come by and touch my hair like it's made of magic. But it's actually just made of snarls and rage.

Hee! This reminds me of a card I once saw that had a drawing of a girl with one lock of incredibly snarly, jagged hair with the caption: "I don't want to be a hair. I want to be a dragon."

I recognize that people find curly hair attractive, and I too find it attractive, but how the people who have attractive curly hair get their hair to be attractive is beyond me. As soon as it is no longer sopping wet, it frizzes, and nothing I put on it can stop it frizzing, and I don't have the time or arm strength to flatiron it. So it mostly lives in a bun, because it is naughty and needs to be restrained.

Hee! That's my hair too! I trim it at home every so often and because it's so thick and curly no one can tell if it's cut evenly or not. I never had it flatironed though. I can't imagine what it would look like straight.

I can put all my hair back in a single barrette when it's straight, and when it's not, I can't get the barrette to even come close to closing. All the volume just goes out of it, it's lovely.

I had this weird thing in my mental image of you that after I heard your voice for a meme post several years ago, I decided you had curly hair. And I have no idea why the sound of your voice made me decide that, but it did. Perhaps fellow curly-haired people can just sense when others are around. :-p

I can't imagine what that's like. My hair is pretty straight; it finally got some wave, and now Daughter is jealous, but I think the wave is a side effect of the way I do my hair when running. I don't run long, but I run three times a week, and doing my hair that way an hour each three times a week for a couple of years now has had an effect.

I would be one of those people wanting to touch your hair (but I'd be too shy even to ask). Anyway, it sounds like it would just reach out and bite me if I tried!

One of the hairdressers at the salon said that your hair changes every eight years in some fashion--texture or colour or thickness. Maybe your hair decided to be wavy. My hair is redder than it was and not quite so curly. You can get a brush through it now, when I was little it wes a nightmare.

When I was a kid and complained about my hair, my mum used to say that someone would love running their hands through it someday, and I used to reply that he wouldn't be able to because his fingers would get stuck!
