Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions to the best of my abilities.
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Date: 2007-12-15 11:05 pm (UTC)Oh, I love Ray. He's a sweetie and he's funny and he's so fragile. Stella messed him up pretty badly and he's lost a lot of self-confidence. I think Fraser really helps bring that out again. I love the way Ray uses his words and puts them together. He's almost poetic.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Fairly. I mean, considering he's really the sidekick. The Mountie (as Ama always calls Fraser) is who you need for there to be a show, but it wouldn't be as good a show if there wasn't a Ray around.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I can definitely relate to his insecurity and his dorkiness. But I don't know what it's like to be a cop, or to try to keep up with a mountie or to be divorced.
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
due South is the place I go to when I need to be cheered up. There's something wonderfully unique and affectionate about the way us Canadians make fun of ourselves. I never fail to walk away feeling good. Ama and I constantly quote due South. She got me into it and neither of us can resist watching it. My mum used to hate it when the re-runs were on, because she couldn't not sit down and watch it with me.

I know there's a lot of RayK/Fraser fans out there, but I see them as friends. I love the way they compliment each other and that Fraser really boosts Ray's confidence while Ray is able to keep Fraser from getting whacked as he does all the ridiculous things he does. I do always route for Stella and Stan to get together again. I love how in love he is with her.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Hmmm. I don't know. Ray is Ray. If he wasn't Ray, he wouldn't be as great a character.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I would hope I would get along with him. I think I would. Unless I worked at the station, I don't how our paths would cross, however. I'm not the criminal type. I would totally give him a hug though. Ray needs more hugs.
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
I'd say he's mid-ranged. I love CKR and Ray is one of the few characters he plays that you really like. He's certainly my favourite character on the show, or at least tied with Dief.
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
I would warn that he isn't old!Ray, but to give him a chance, because he's worth keeping an eye on.
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Oh, I'd say so. I think he's more popular than RayV, anyway. If only because I understand they didn't air seasons 1 and 2 until after seasons 3 and 4 in the States? I think.

I remember starting with RayV first and then the next time I saw the show again, RayK was on. I missed the pivotal episode where they explained the switch so I was confused for awhile. But it hardly changed how much I loved RayK.
I've loved CKR since seeing him in Double Happiness. But RayK remains my favorite of his roles.

Date: 2007-12-15 11:33 pm (UTC)I haven't seen Double Happiness, but have just added it to my Ziplist because it looks like something I would enjoy. Ray is my favourite of his characters too, but I loved him as Duck in Wilby Wonderful as well. He was so unbelievably sweet in that role. He was very, very good in Hard Core Logo too, even if the movie was a bit weird in general for my tastes.
